    If the Western Docks scheme is successful, it will make the town's traffic problem much worse and create directly no more than a few dozen poor quality jobs. The indirect job creation will be mostly non-local. If the scheme is unsuccessful it will bankrupt the DHB, driving it into the arms of its financiers. Doesn't sound like a win-win outcome to me.

    A knock-on effect will be that worse traffic congestion will threaten the viability of the DTIZ, leaving us in 5 years time with another white elephant. The only winners will be the restaurant chains sucking the lifeblood out of locally-owned competitors.

    Sorry, I'm not normally so pessimistic, but it's Christmas after all. Bah Humbug.
