The fact of the matter is that the Ports Minister declared it to be a "Community Port" not a plaything for blokes wearing nice suits in posh offices. At no stage has DHB promised to return the pier to public use and the public know this hence 350 odd people made the effort to object on the planning website. The moment dismantling starts the the mass media will be onto it making Dover a laughing stock on TV and in the newspapers. All around the coast groups of people - volunteers, councils etc pull out all the stops to keeping their run down piers while here we are vandalising a listed pier in perfect condition.
