Religious persecution has been falling steadily for years there Reg, with regards to Homosexuals the act of Sodomy carries a maximum 3 year jail sentence but who is likely to get caught, not something one would do in the local Soukh.

Merkel tried to do her best allowing to keep borders open, but, as people say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

It would now appear that the prime suspect arrived in Italy in 2011, served 4 year jail sentence there after torching a school and later, in Germany, was not removed in spite of being a known Jihadist failed asylum seeker and being arrested three times this year!
Almost makes Border Farce appear efficient. Almost.

Seems the German justice system is entirely to blame if they have selected the right person this time and leaves a lot to be desired.
I think are Border Force are as good as they can be with the resources they have.
Here is a complete picture of the suspect.

When I was last in Germany in pre freedom of movement days you couldn't break wind without having the correct paperwork,, possibly because I is white.
Now we have a situation where this chap has previous convictions and is known to be a terror threat but they release him because of "lack of paperwork"!! Would it have been simpler just to detain him until the Tunisian authorities cracked and admitted that he was one of theirs?

Serious question. If Germans rounded up everyone who is flagged up as a known terror threat and has previous convictions just how many would they be locking up?
We have exactly the same problem here. Now. Which is why terrorism threat level is SEVERE (attack highly likely). It's not 'if' but 'when'.

Thinking about the Captain's last paragraph.
Going back in time can you imagine a similar situation during WW2 with known German sympathisers being allowed to roam free to bomb and cause havoc. Maybe we were not so keen on so called human rights back then, unlike now where a baddie or terrorist's rights seem more important than the innocent bystander.

Slightly over the top article but sadly not by very much.
We must not consider the vast majority of Muslims are a threat, after all it is only a few who who cause trouble. The biggest problem is that we the general public do not know who those few are so are cautious of the majority especially if we do not know them. This is much like when the IRA were causing trouble many innocent Irish people were justifiably viewed with suspicion.

The writer cannot have had any dealings with British Muslims or he would know that most have no opinion on Christmas either way, the business fraternity though love it as it means they can turn out festive tat and make it the most lucrative time of the year. The bit about burkas on every street corner is a silly one as only a very tiny percentage of Muslim women wear them in Germany.

It is an unfortunate fact that the Arab word, which was once at the forefront in both science and art, has been kept in a state of primitive ignorance by this backwards religion, and many adherents are still unable to exist in a world of modernity enjoying the freedoms and civilisation most of us take in 2017 for granted (and even worse won't allow us to enjoy them).
One only has to look at the fact that since the Nobel Prizes were established in 1895 (which have been awarded to over 800 individuals) only 12 have been to Muslims, 23% of the world's population, and ironically 7 of them were for 'peace'. LOL as they say! (Interestingly Jews have won 22% of all prizes whilst being less than 0.2% of world population). This is from the people who invented algebra and astronomy for God's sake - scientific enquiry and progress brought to a full stop by the ramblings of a man in a desert.
Their stupid laws on figurative art have kept art in the state where the best we can do is 'marvel' (sic) at their wonderful 'patterns', much as we do with primitive artwork brought home from school by our children, rather than the sweep of Western Art from Giotto to Hockney.
All religions are equally stupid.
Not all are equally damaging.
I had no problem whilst Islam merely kept its followers in ignorance, it's what you expect religions to do.
The carnage being caused by Salafi Jihadism is a different matter.

No they're all stupid, if one was clever he'd be able to stop the rest being stupid.

I hope the people in Berlin realise that if it had not been for the determination and courage of the Polish driver, many more would have lost their lives. It appears he kept pulling the steering wheel to take the lorry away from the crowd, despite having been stabbed and finally having bled out.

Australia now.
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2016/dec/23/five-in-custody-alleged-melbourne-christmas-terrorism-threat
Meanwhile the Forum on Australia’s Islamic Relations accuse the police of using excessive force when making the arrests! My heart bleeds.
In the UK here's the latest stats relating to terrorism:-
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/operation-of-police-powers-under-the-terrorism-act-2000-quarterly-update-to-september-2016/operation-of-police-powers-under-the-terrorism-act-2000-and-subsequent-legislation-arrests-outcomes-and-stops-and-search-great-britain-quarterly
Of the 255 arrests for terrorism-related offences in the year ending 30 September 2016, 96 had resulted in a charge by 19 October 2016 (78 terrorism-related and 18 non-terrorism-related).
Read that again.
78 terrorism-related
As I wrote, it's not if but when.

True, although land borders are inevitably porous anyway - cue the von Trapps trotting off into the sunset.
