The post you are reporting:
Hi All. This is not a DPPT sponsored event. DPPT subscribe to this event and, as one of the largest community membership organisations in Dover District, have, in cooperation with local Labour Party, Local Conservatives, UNITE the Union and Dover Town Council, been closely involved with the organisation of it. I've personally put a bit of time into organising some of the background stuff. This event is designed to allow everyone who is opposed to the DHB plans a chance to gather and show their opposition and to allow other community based groups and young musicians an opportunity to show case their work free of charge at what I hope will be a well attended event. So Vic, no one is trying to fool you, no one is trying to make anyone believe something that is not true, I am sure that you will have an opportunity to demonstrate your opposition to the DHB's plans.
As far as DPPT goes, the membership own the organisation, the membership are all those in the local community who wish to become members and are over 18 years of age. The membership will have 100% control of the organisation and, through the board of directors, will have 100% of the influence over the future strategic development of the port. The funders neither want or will have any influence whatsoever so long as the port meets its financial commitments, just the same as your mortgage company will not be telling you what plants to plant in your garden, or what colour carpets you have in your house, or what furniture, or wall colours, etc. I've already explained this self same issue several times on several different threads.
I and many, many others want the port to be owned in perpetuity by the people of Dover and Dover District. Its future placed directly into the hands of ordinary people and removed forever from the influence and whims of national politicians and port executives both sets of whom have shown beyond a shadow of doubt that they cannot be trusted with the future of our port, that they will not live up to their obligations to hand the port on to the next generation even, let alone hand it over to the next generation in the same or better condition than when they took it over from the last generation. I believe that the DPPT model is a way of achieving the main objective whilst allowing the port the freedom to raise the capital that it requires to invest in future growth and development.
