Neil must be the number 1 candidate I'd have thought.

Neil must be a good contender but I suspect it will be someone we have never heard of.

This process is a test of the DHB's resolve to become genuinely community-oriented. If the leopard has changed its spots then Neil ought to be a shoo-in. Otherwise, the jury will remain out.

I said much the same when the community port was proposed, proof of the pudding etc.
Rumour has it that a large number of people fancy their chances and have applied.

Not just an insult to every low-paid dockside worker but also deeply concerning the leader at DDC will have a say.

Good post Jack, work has started on the demolition of the Seacat Berth, I'm told at least half of the workers are Eastern European.
So much for the port being run for the benefit of the local community.
They're all too busy pointing fingers to get a grip of the situation

It may be an insult to the low-paid workers Jack, but I take offence at your description of the Leader of DDC, as "moronic".
Paul Watkins is so far from moronic, he has kept the Council stable, maintained services and kept a balanced budget over many years of serious cuts (under Labour and Conservative Governments), without impacting negatively on front-line services.
If you think Labour are better at handling money at either Government or District level, you are so seriously wrong, or have a very short memory - maybe you are in denial as well.
It sounds like a good mix of politicians on the panel. Are you arguing against those politicians because of their party, or the fact that they are politicians ?
Who is pointing fingers David ? Your arguments are always personal to be of any value; it may be your job as UKIP Parliamentary candidate to grumble about the policies of this or that party, but you make it personal - and reading Jack's post, he does too.

Charlie and Clair are busy squabbling as usual Roger, you're so tribal you can't see past the end of your nose. I'm not being personal I'm pointing out, for the umpteenth time, how poorly we're governed in our little corner of the world.
Answer this direct question Roger:
What do you think of 50%+ of the workers being Eastern European?

Claire's response could be sour grapes as she is not on the interview panel.
I am not to worried that half the workers are foreign so long as they were already in the country and seeking employment, but I would object if they were specially sourced from abroad.

DHB cannot discriminate against nationalities when they employ people otherwise they could be prosecuted.

the port director should recive 75% of minimum wage and have a zero hour contract.
to many politicos on the panel, and besides Charlie has two faces.

If anyone could apply for the jobs (at "normal" rates of pay) and already here working - not brought over specially for it, I don't really have a problem, as it would then be a level playing field. It would be up to anyone one here to apply for one of those jobs.
Your post 13 is nonsense Brian and why do you say Charlie is two-faced ?

Only some of the workers are from Eastern Europe which suggests that DHB have used an agency or even the Jobcentre here to recruit.
I never saw the vacancies advertised anywhere.

Most likely the demolition is being done by a sub-contractor, so the guys doing the work are direct employees of the sub-contractor and not of the DHB. Sub-contractors come with their own workforce, so no adverts for new jobs would have appeared.
