Barry, as long as the Government has a chance to do the right thing, I won't hammer at it for the sake of it (for the sake of hammering at Gov.). But presently, economic growth has been suffocated, and that is quite independent from cuts in public spending.

Surely you have noticed that Labour is 10 percentage points ahead of the Tories in public approval, and the last local elections the other week must have rammed home a shock wave to the Conservatives.

Unless the Gov. does something that can get economic growth up and running, and I mean pretty soon, the chances will fade away.
What we are missing is the possibility of local Councils to have each their own economic board for local economic development, with sufficient funds to make necessary interventions in the local economy.

This is a fundamental part of my Economy programme (as highlighted in my second Forum post in 2010), and it happens to coincide with official Government policy as of May 2010.
Council budgets are being cut by up to 40% over four years, but no powers have been given to the Councils to enhance their own local economy, say at District and County level.

Unless this is seen to, we are stuck in Limbo.
