How's about it then PaulB/Howard ?
Nominate a day and see if everyone can avoid all the politics and post something different, interesting or uplifting for a change ?
I challenge you all !!
Been nice knowing you :)

can't see it happening paul politics seems to invade every part of our lives.
the party point scoring is a bit over the top i agree, i like good political debate where views are expressed and listened to.
i read everything on here, love threads with local events especially those run by volunteers, history especially when kath puts up her old newspapers, things happening like businesses opening or closing and the general knock about humour ones.

I think you meant "seems to invade every part of the forum", Howard.
Nice idea Paul, alas I feel you are casting your seed on stony ground.

i know what you are saying phil but as a point of reference the sacking of 400 gurkhas today was made by politicians but is not a party political issue, though give it time.
every cut made by kcc or ddc will be interpreted as a political act though we know that the cuts woukl be broadly similar whatever party is in control.

So much for that idea Paul, never mind it was a nice thought.

Well Paul, you managed 25 minutes in this thread before the inevitable. Not bad going.

scotchie
i fully understand what you say, but yourself often gets involved in the political arena(and no prob with that)
i would even support a no politics day
but as you can imagine(and howard says, your everyday can been seen to have a political slant within it.
so it's difficult to avoid it
from all sides

It's extremely easy to forget about 'IT' for a day and I am sure quite a few others on here will agree, I am quite happy to get on with my life for days on end without worrying about 'IT' or the state of the world etc

Been nice knowing you :)

A jolly good suggestion Tom, unfortunately a lot of the threads have nothing to do with Dover whatsoever which hardly helps either.

Yes if the contributors themselves want lots of non political threads then please start them by all means. Ive just looked down along page one of the forum and there is a good spread of the non political.
Chatter tends to go with whats on the daily news by and large. Some political, some non political like Seafrance or Costa Concordia, and some like the Breast Implant thread which inevitably turn political because the problem washed up on the political doorstep.
It wouldnt be possible to stick to Dover only stories as Tony mentions there as we would soon dry up and people do like to chat about the national issues.
There isnt any instant solution but hopefully plenty of non political threads to follow, thats the best route...but also.. alas for some...politics too. That way everybody is happy.

I was not objecting to politics in general, I know that would be a waste of time, it was the tit for tat comments that are so predictable and boring that I find bring absolutely nothing to any discussion.
I will now retreat into my corner with my coffee.

Scotchie I would respectfully point out that it was you who started the thread about Tony Blair's tax bill.
