the dymchurch cancellation was made a month or so ago and the police are advising the organisers how to go about things.
it was inevitable that this would happen, hopefully local british legion branches will liaise with their police and that there are enough volunteer stewards.

Nagging in the back of my mind (no comments please) is that I was once told that a school teacher with children in tow has the authority to stop traffic and cross the road.
Any volunteers for November 10?

Over at Eythorne, the crowd just takes up the road and cars cannot pass - particularly gratifying during the 2 minutes silence when they can't go anywhere. We had one year, some erk got fed up and decided to wheel spin round the roundabout during the silence which was slightly off putting, but, on the type of tyres he had, brought forward the day when he'd have to shell out £500 for new tyres by a considerable amount of time.

The police would normally stop the traffic at the pedestrian crossing in Priory Road by the roundabout a few minutes before 11.00 to allow the Standard Bearers to assemble in front of the Memorial. The crowds are then pushed back onto the road.
The traffic must be stopped, not only for safety but also for the two minutes silence. The silence during the recent re-dedication was marred by passing buses and lorries.
Common sense must prevail. A job for the Specials? Assuming they still exist.

There were hundreds of police on duty at Balcombe today, it must have cost a fortune. Who pays, Cuadrilla,? I doubt it. We probably do through our taxes and they can't afford a few coppers to police the traffic for a few minutes on Rememberance Day which is attended by a law abiding community.
