Lip service Howie, lips service.
We can do this and do that but at the end of the day they can't.
things will be nice and calm for a few days after the volunteers have been in and then you can start all over again.
Seen it done it got the T shirt and I could write a bloody great book about it.
Welcome to my world Howard.

Just been speaking to my father on the phone (Hull) loads of people get nicked weekly for fishing without a licence in the area and fined heavily.
So why there and not here?

Maybe they have a river-warden Ian, or maybe there's an EA office near the fishing area.
I'm sure if a RW had the necessary power, he would raise enough money to pay his salary.
Of course, it could be, they don't actually care about the Dour and only pay it lip-service.

Lip service Roger, is that what you paid to me all that time ago when I bought to your attention the open gas services man hole at the junction of Eaton Road and Elms Vale that has been unattended for in excess of 6 months? You promised to investigate several months ago but todate nothing has happened either by you or the utility company. It will soon cease to be a hazard though has it is slowly filling up with rubbish.

Never mind Ken, if someone injures themselves on it it will soon be dealt with.
It might have been better if you had contacted the utility company, that is what I would have done.

I did investigate Ken and spoke to the guys who were there some evenings. When I went to look for your email address to let you know, I couldn't find it; the one you used to advise me about it, was not a Ken Tranter one, but I searched for it several times without any luck.
I don't know what number Eaton Road you live at, so couldn't call on you, so I hoped you would send me another email so I could let you know what they said.
If you would like to send me an email, I'll let you know.
If anyone askes me to do anything I try as hard as I can to find the answer, so no, I don't pay lip-service to anything, sorry you felt the need to post in that vein Ken.

Jan I had made numerous calls the the relevent utility company to no effect, hence my request to Roger.
Roger when all else fails I believe a posting on the forum to be most effective and lo and behold the day after I posted the problem was resolved, perhaps a Labour councillor read my posting and acted or was it you?

Just returned from a few day away so couldn't post earlier.
As you know Ken, the gas-guys were in attendance most days and evenings to monitor it. The problem was (apparantly) a leak right in the middle of the junction of Elmsvale Road and Eaton Road.
They were also talking to Stagecoach as the road would have had to be closed and a new route found.
I'm not sure if a cure was found without digging up the road, or their original diagnosis was wrong, but they put the cover back (without clearing out the accumulated litter/ribbish in there) and left.
