if all the motorised traffic would be in a straight line the length would be 4 kilometres.
the spirit of france will join in the fun in september. - 8 January 2011 02:1288114Missed a few zeros off there, Howard. The Spirit of Britain is 49,000 gross tons. This is a measurement of the volume of a ship and has nothing to do with the weight of the ship or cargo.
The vessel rounded the Skaw shortly before midnight and was heading down the Skagerrak into the North Sea.

- 9 January 2011 17:3488345We got to the end of the Prince of Wales pier after the crowds had all left and saw the stars of the show returning to the Western Docks. Doughty came straight at the lighthouse, stopped with a foot to spare, went sideways round the end then did a 360° pirouette before carrying on - brilliant.

Just to flag up further the job the tugboats did, they added greatly to the grand occasion. Here are a couple of pix showing their water spraying skills, also there are a further couple of shots on the frontpage in case anyone has missed them. I haven't posted a picture for a while, so I hope this works! Great to see a new ship joining the Dover fleet. I seem to recall that in addition to the sistership, Spirit of France, currently under construction, P&O also took options for a further two ships. I wonder if they will see the light of day?
This should be an interesting year for the port with a decision due on privatisation. Just to play devil's advocate, forumites will of course know that P&O Ferries is owned by DP World. Interesting to see that foreign investors are willing to invest in the port. - 10 January 2011 19:5088496Some really great pictures there guys it looked very impressive sailing into the harbour yesterday in the sunshine, and good to see many people on the seafront and the cliff top to watch.
