As I can only read the threads on the Forum approximately once a week, I tend to miss a lot of what happens in Dover. Therefore could anyone enlighten me as to the current state of affairs on the DTIZ and are we still not getting value for the £600,000 we precept to the Town Council. I will hold my hands in the air and state categorically I could never adequately defend the precept or the raison d'etre for it's being whilst a member of it whilst seemingly enjoying it.

i thought the precept was nearer 900 grand ken, off the top of my head they raised it by over 30% this year to cover any future capping.

DTIZ? What a laugh. Still, as you asked Ken, the Buddleia are doing well on the site and are now about 8 foot high...

Ken, I was informed that a hotel is supposed to go up somewhere in the DTIZ zone that would resemble a Burlington House placed sideways.
The person asked me why I don't make a representation against the planning proposal of this hotel.
Fortunately I haven't seen the plan.

posts 1 and 16 here give a differing opinion on the 34% rise in precept.

Surely justifying such a large increase in the precept on the grounds you are pre empting capping is socially irresponsible and demonstrates that we are not all in it together. We have a titular Town Council who bring no benefit whatsoever to the town in relation to their cost, let us go back to the days of the Charter Trustees where the District Councillors for the Town wards were also the Town Councillors and the Mayor would be chosen from a Town person of standing. Once again I hold my hand up and admit I may have benefited from the largesse of being a Town Councillor but I am qualified to say why I think Town Councils in general are a complete and utter waste of time.

have to agree in the most part with ken, the budget does not seem to bring the results commensurate with it, the same applies to deal.

The DTC website has two vacancies it wishes to fill. One is a fixed term to cover adoption leave(not sure what that is and is it with pay?) and the other is for an administrator, empire building is alive and well at DTC.

Ken, Adoption Leave (whether you are a bloke or a blokess) is a legal entitlement (courtesy of legislation passed by a previous National Administration) if one is adopting a child and is paid in much the same way as Maternity leave for a similar time span.

and why shouldn't they get leave??
on kens point, this is another ex Cllr having a go now hes left
the town council would work with the right people on it
sadly political parties or indies just cannot find enough people, or the right people
to move it forward.
town councils to my mind is the correct body, its the people who are elected that maybe doesn't do itself any justice
ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS

if i remember correctly you have said a few times on here that there are too many layers of local government and that town councils should go.
why the change of heart?
