See from the paper today, DTC say use it or lose it on the bandstand.
I still think it would be better placed in Granville Gardens and more likely to be used ?
Been nice knowing you :)

absolutely disgraceful this talk of dismantling it.
i plagued the town council about its under use for years, suggesting that at weekends local bands starting out should be allowed to practice/play there.
i was always told that the issue was complicated invoving the district council.
then in august they finally do the business and treat us to 4 great concerts with another in september and despite dire publicity people turn up to watch and enjoy.
it is far too easy to destroy something rather than promote it.

Is there any space in the proposed DTIZ? It could be a focal point there rather than shifting everything to the seafront.

We could have it as a smoking shelter in our garden.

What authority have Dover Town Council to say this
Surely, they are the ones....the Councillor's too, who should be working at it....
Anyway, don't panick......it takes a long time to dismantle something....

I was on the town council when it was voted on to go where it is,I did say at the time yes to the bandstand no to where it went.

The bandstand as far as I'm aware is remaining, there was talk of wrapping it up, also dismantling, but it was opt,for it to remain and put it to use 12 times a year, this is due to the success of the past 4 events

I recall the planning meeting at DDC when permission was given for the Bandstand to be located in Pencester.Several members had to declare an interest and leave the room .Thats the trouble when councillors serve on two councils I voted against .It should have been located on the seafront.
This clarifies my point about there being too many Councillors serving too many causes....
The Town loses out all the time.....things that go up, are declared a failure...
Nothing is worked at properly, because there are too many arguments all the time from all the factions......
Not helped, I feel by councellors at the meetings declaring after the event...
Well, I did not not vote for this or that....
Interesting too....that Councillors are allowed to serve on two councils.....
You could not make it up......

Ere - stop with the political stuff, I want a thread without it !!!
Let's have a vote:
A) Keep in Pencester
B) Move to Seafront
C) Somewhere else
D) Get rid of it

A. Leave it there. Any other option involves spending our money.

Whilst agreeing with Mark that it could go as part of DTIZ it would mean a large space around it for an audience. That means loss of rental so it's not on.
As to the vote, I'm with Peter, leave it where it is.
Now let's stop bickering and find some more uses for it!

Mr Norman you miss the point .Its called democracy .A debate is held vote taken and there was I think one vote more for the bandstand to be located in Pencester.

the location is perfect split between a car park and a series of bus stops, people stopped to watch the concrts recently purely because they were cutting through pencester gardens.

Publicity when there is an event on would help but that is the case for most things in the area.
I vote to leave it where it is, a good central site with public transport nearby.

Therefore.....
There should be a Town Noticeboard, and people should know where it is....
Also, how about a Town Crier
I am sure lots of Councillors would be up for the job.....So people know where and when things are happening....!
If the Information and Tourist Departments are moving to the Museum/Library then people should know where it is...
Personally, I always felt the Bandstand was rather Small and of Poor Design...it could have been more adventurous....and I do not think you could get a full Band on it....
Having now said that, I have not yet seen a Band playing on it.....I mean a proper Band like the Colliery Bands etc.....Now that would be very nice indeed.............

it has taken full bands before back in the days when john goodwin organised the concerts.
we did have a town crier at one time, stewart dimmock - all went well until someone nicked his hat.

We have had quite large bands on the bandstand for Hellfire.
Including the Betteshanger band and the band of the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment. I was amazed at just how many bandsmen fitted in it. Its not as small as you might think.
It is in a fairly sorry state though and needs some maintenance.
