Just so many more own a car now. Some households 2-3 cars.I have an old pic somewhere of Tower hill,Dover, taken about 1973.Theres probably no more than 8 cars in the whole street, one of them belonged to my dad.Now you would be pushed to find a parking space along there. Its pretty much the same everywhere .

Indeed, the same with South Road between Tower Street and Wyndham (and, at one time,
two of those would have been my Dad's

).

The last few posts sum up the problems. The politicians might try to get people to use ever unreliable public transport, who wants to play sardines or wait ages for a bus especially in rain or when it is hot.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

What with many bus routes now reduced to just 1 per hour and now the £2 fair has been increased to £2.60,it doesnt inspire anyone to want to give up their cars.

At Aycliffe where I live we have no choice but to park on the pavement. If we did not no emergency services would not get through.
If I go out at night because there are no buses in the evening and come I cannot find a space.
About 8/9years ago I successfully got a petition through to DDC to expand some roads etc to increase parking for another 60 cars including the road where I live.
I even went up to Whitfield and did a presentation (I know one person on these forums who was at the meeting at the time.)
They agreed we needed extra parking. I even went round with the councillors including councillor Biggs and identified places where extra parking could be put in place.
They agree to start spending money slowly to increase parking.
Guess what it never happened….yet they spent 37 million on one route.. we know the one
I kept on about it but as usual our councillors lost interest
I look forward to see what they say if they decide to start fining people

I think Gary has looked at it in a more realistic way.
I think we all can identify where these problems exist .
So Having one ways , will speed traffic up( as at present two way they have to go slower because of oncoming traffic )
Emergency services as Gary's says wouldn't get through if everyone parked on the road. But
When Mr Crundall built the clarendons for the horse and cart all those years ago, it wasn't expected to have the cars it has today !
I'm still unconvinced of the latest petition in the clarendons as I don't think it will solve much, in fact it would create further problems .
