I see from the latest DDC newsletter that the above is being taken back in house once the contract with English Landscapes expires. I wonder if this is a one off or will other services be taken back and direct labour employed.

True tale.
A friend of ours had a son who was interested in horticulture and joined DDC's direct labour (sic) force hoping to get some experience. He left after a few months as all they did was sit in the van reading the Sun and drinking tea unless supervised.
On the plus side at least they didn't take brand new copper piping from the store and sell it as scrap as direct labour did when they were responsible for council house maintenance!

Not too long ago at all Paul! Perhaps 'direct labour' was the wrong phrase?

Russell Gardens are coming along nicely for those Dovorians whose electronic tags will allow them to wander that far.
Well worth a visit.

How lovely, I just hope they have a reasonable size car park to go with it (too small at the mo), or it will be Connaught Park - lovely place, just nowhere to park.

Subway leading to the front, might be the work of the Town Council.

Indeed Brian.
The boat in Queen Street could do with a tidy up.

Huge effort to be commended.
Tubs of Geraniums have appeared down the precinct too.
We could do with a fountain once again in the Market Square.

Cannot envisage a fountain ever returning to Market square, meanwhile DDC have been planting at the flats in Maison Dieu Road.

I don't know if they pay someone to do it or if it is the work of church volunteers but always a good display.
