I have just read those comments from Howard's link, they show how ignorant, stupid and downright nasty some people can be.
I am lucky and have never been on the receiving end of such comments possibly as my disability is not obvious to strangers but my immediate reply would be "you could be like this or worse tomorrow"

The picture that accompanied Dave with his 'hug a hoodie' campaign, that of some charmer sticking two fingers up in the background, probably neither shocked or surprised us. Much muttering and gesticulation goes on behind our backs every day, that some use twitter this way is but an extension of this, surely.
As I go about I count both positive and negative responses as a result, there being no such thing as bad publicity.
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.
