Park and Ride service to help visitors enjoy Kearsney Parks over bank holiday weekend

  As we look forward to the spring bank holiday weekend, Dover District Council is trialling a free park and ride service to Kearsney Abbey from the DDC offices in Whitfield over the three days.

  At least they are trying to elevate the problems caused by parking causing problems to those who live near the Abbey.At least they are not operating from a town car park.

  It's only a matter of time before some bright spark suggests increasing parking space for those visiting the park by tarmacking over the park itself and building an 'interpretation centre' where the 'visitor experience could be enhanced' possibly with the use of 'virtual reality' to 'reach out to a younger demographic'.

  If they must waste money on Park and Ride from Whitfield it would be better spent on a bus from central Dover to Samphire Hoe that is not at all easily accessible except by car.

  I would reckon they are spending the Lottery allocation money for this offer which probably can’t be used for other sites.

  Agree with this. Access is poor for walkers. I get the bus to the top of Aycliffe, cross the bridge over the A20, then head down the fume-filled tunnel. The alternative's to walk along a busy fume-filled dual carriageway to Shakespeare beach, up the steps over the railway line, then follow the path along the cliff, then head down the fume-filled tunnel. That takes some commitment, and a willing and able body. The exercise is great for the asthma, but the fumes aren't.
  
  As regards the proposed P&R, it's as plain as the nose on Cyrano de Bergerac's face that if you don't live in Whitfield and make it by car to the bottom of Whitfield Hill, then you're closer to Kearsney than to the DDC car park.

  The whole idea is to stop people clogging up the roads.I agree with Bob no more tarmac.Enough is enough other wise the beauty will be lost.By the way the government is giving out grants to plant more trees.A moral there somewhere.
