I would have had a chat Keith but you seemed to be bending the ear of Collette most of the time! Yes, it did go well, it's one of those traditional things that we should maintain. I was talking to a former Councillor who told me that he went to a Mayor Making in a neighbouring town that was held in the back room of a pub!
Did they really let you in Howard?

Invitations often used to have the line "Carriages at 11pm". Not so last night, we all made our way in various means of transport including a former Mayor who went home on her motorbike!

that is one of lifes great mysteries martin, yesterday dover town council announced on facebook and twitter that the event at the town hall was the annual statutory meeting and members of the public were invited to attend.

As I understand it members of the public are admitted to the "ceremony" provided that the town hall capacity isn't exceeded. Only invited guests are allowed into the beanfeast after though.

Best wishes to Ronnie for the coming year, I'm sure she will do a splendid job again
Our New Mayor Cllr Ronnie Philpott
Chairman of DDC, Cllr Sue Nicholas looking lovely in pink with Mr Jack Saunders at last night's Mayor Making. Jack who lives in Buckland is 85 yrs young, He was a cook on the ferries & in his last 20yrs of work he was a cook with the army at Connaught Barracks. He certainly had a spring in his step!
Our outgoing Mayor Cllr Anne Smith letting her hair down & enjoying a well deserved glass of wine.

With no disrespect to the "new" mayor isn't it sad that a new face could not be found amongst the numerous councillors that happily spend or should that be waste our money.

I sailed with Jack Saunders on the "European Trader" for several years. His fish and chips were to die for. I often see him on the bus doing his shopping but never seen him in a suit before.

i think there is an "equalities/diversity" problem with our mayors, they always seem to be caucasian ladies. surely it is time for a black or asian male to have a turn.
i will put feelers out down the take away later and report back.

i spoke briefly to anne at the connaught park opening and she said that weekends are totally written off with mayoral duties and her councillor work took up the evenings in midweek.
