Not starting on it until next summer despite the money being available and the site chosen.

There are suggestions of legal challenges so probably advisable to wait. Probably needs planning permission as well.

You're right there Lew CPRE have stuck their oar in and as much as I support their ideals when stack is on our rural villages suffer from juggernauts ruining their idyllic lifestyle.

Sad covering more of our Garden Of England with concrete.Should have made small Lorry parks along the M2 .Traffic for the port should be stopped further up the line.Bring back goods travelling by train.
If you look at East Kent more and more country side is being covered by concrete.Houses ,retail parks ,Lorry parks .Expansion at the port.So it goes on .

I knew I had read that somewhere even then the start date could be delayed by legal challenges.

All this was decided months ago, the DoT had already bought the farmland on the opposite side of the M20 and told the owner of the chosen site where he would be relocated to - just repeating what was stated at a parish council meeting and the KCC Cllr present didn't disagree.

Sue, small lorry parks would end up covering just as much land but would be far harder to control. Ideally far more freight should go by rail but how much spare capacity has the Channel Tunnel? Long waits again last night there. Time for Chunnel 2?

This really is a dumb solution for 2016 when the world and his dog has a smart phone. Leave the lorries parked all over the country, outside the Happy Eater Milton Keynes or wherever, and contact them when they can start driving to get a ferry slot.
Concreting over the countryside is a 19th century answer to a 20th century problem when we have a 21st century solution.

I was shown a letter written by a well known local figure to the local MP who said he would keep it in mind at future discussions of the problem, some hope. The suggestion was to bore tunnels into the cliffs to a site similar to Samphire Ho, creating the site from the spoil from the proposed tunnels, not as daft as it sounds.

The problem of parking lorries all over the country is that they just won't stay there, any driver wants to drive to the limit of their hours and get as close to their destination as possible, and there is not a hope in hell that eastern European drivers are going to comply!
