Looks like the last truly Socialist nation on the planet is turning its back on Socialism! Strange times indeed!
Perhaps Francis Fukuyama was right!!

you seem to have forgotten north korea or if you believe sid, the united kingdom for the past 13 years.

22:1570414Howard,
I stand corrected!
Nevertheless it looks like a victory for McWorld in Cuba!

22:1770416Bob, for some reason it takes socialists a long time to realise their way doesn't work. Of course they are aided by a public that continues to vote for something they rarely get, unless of course you count removal of personal freedom, and ALL socialist governments worldwide are up for delivering on that score.

23:0370454Selective memory or just chosing to forget those previously? How convenient.

06:5370482Its the old trick of the left Sid.
Faced with the evils, incompetence and failure of socialist governments everywhere, they bleat that they were not really socialist. Bit sad and pathetic that they cannot own up to the obvious flaws and errors in their thinking.

you are twisting the argument, the discussion was about how many socialist/communist governments there are now.

11:0870526#5 We agree there is more than one then, good.
#8 Not twisting the argument, just developing it.
Barry, from his posting #2, I think Howard is under the illusion we didn't have a socialist government for the last 13 years, hence my comment re selective memory.

16:0670568I seem to remember our brothers, and occasionally representatives of me (as a Union member), showing 'solidarity' with many 'worthy' causes.
Surely now is the time for them to show their solidarity with Cuba.
Brothers, cast off your chains, your time has come.................

16:2570582Keith. Not joking - just rather cynical.
I have always been a member of a union since I became employed. I want a body basically to bargain for my salary and hold my hand if management are having a go at me. End of tale.
Were I to give a damn about racism, sexism, politics, liberation struggles (various - WTF is Nicaragua anyway?) I shall happily do so through the ballot box or individual action.
Unfortunately, having looked at reports from the TUC conference, we are looking at a load of self aggrandising 'class warriors' fighting a war that has already been won.
If I were them, I'd be looking for a surrender document which does end in total humilation?
Given that (in the absence of any Socialist states - apart from North Korea) we are in a choice between Jihad and McWorld I'm surprised that the brothers are going for Jihad, especially when based upon sociology (Marxism) rather than religion (fill in!).
