But i struggle to see why we would want to get into bed with a state that gives corporations greater rights than people, that fails to ratify ILO treaties, that fails to adhere to UN agreements, that believes war is a perfectly acceptable diplomatic tool and method of enhancing its influence, that openly supports its client states in breaching UN resolutions, supports some of the most objectionable dictators in recent times - just to name some of its more public failings.

an arms length respect between us and the united states is the right idea for me.
we have all seen our governments fawn at the feet of the americans and talk glowingly about a special relationship.
this always ends with us being shafted.
henry kissinger one famously said that the united states does not have friends only interests.
