08:1373788Ah yes indeed Norman Wisdom was very good in his day, but very much of his day..when the world was a simpler place, not long after the war. Twas terrificly entertaining low budget stuff...Pitkin and Mr Grimsdale...I remember em all well. Norman was Pitkin of course.
Remember the one where he was mistaken for a nazi officer, great stuff. While working in France behind the lines as a navvy..he wonders in to the nearby village which shock horror is in the control of the Germans with the resulting mayhem. Poor oul Pitkin, he didnt have a great deal of success getting the girl!
In recent years Norman Wisdom was often overlooked and dismissed by newspapers such as the daily mail as a bad joke, but in his era he was very good indeed.

08:2773790Whenever I saw him interviewed he came across as a normal person (no big head). I loved those films he made and he could sing as well.
R.I.P Norman

08:2973791He did live in Deal, my Gran was his nanny for while and I went fishing with him on Deal Pier. He was a wonderful person, as well as a very funny actor. I am sure he will be remembered, missed and mourned by many.

09:1373797I loved all his films in childhood days, and much of it makes me laugh even today, and for me, that`s very unusual. He seemed a natural for the parts he played, something very rare in recent decade`s with the modern day cr.p. Everyone to their own though.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

13:4373821A campaign has already started on Facebook for a statue/memorial in Deal to celebrate his life and contribution over the years.
I like the idea to remove the 'art' in front of the pier and have it there.....
Been nice knowing you :)

17:1573841He only lived in Deal for about 3 years, he walked to Wales at the age of 14, where amongst other things, he was a miner for a short while. He did come back many times over the years.
I too would love to see a tribute to him on our pier front, he loved visiting the pier.
