or shop staff it would seem, this is asda but most other local supermarkets have similar hours advertised. there are no buses on boxing day or new year's day so diffficult if not impossible for some staff to get in and customers without own transport will not bother.

No Brian I think they are looking after the interests of their shareholders. Give the staff a decent break. If people can't stock up with "essentials" for a couple of days then they have a problem. Wonder if the directors will be working these hours?

Delighted to read on Morrisons' website that they are closed on Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

morrison's staff always seem cheerful so it does seem that they are good employers, when you see how much food people are buying around this time the shops could be closed for a month without anybody running out of food.

I was in Primark at Westwood on Monday a tannoy announcement said the store is opening at one minute past midnight on Christmas Eve, why would people have the urge to buy clothes at that ungodly hour? and what a horrible time for the staff to start work!

department stores, record/book shops and the like are waiting for people to spend their gift vouchers, supermarkets really have no need to open over the holiday, by doing so they are incurring costs that inevitably will be passed on to the customer.
