I have just received a phone call to say that recievers went in there this morning and closed the place down due to unpaid rent.
The figure I have been quoted varies, but it appears that stall holders have been paying their rents, but those rents not passed on to those who should have had the money.
I am also told the market will re-open tomorrow. I guess with some of the stall holders with an agent in charge.
Cannot say I am totally suprised.

Very interesting post that Mandie although we do have to be very careful about what we say here for legal reasons. But just to clarify...is Newmart the one in Pencester? I get confused with which ones which? If it is the one in Pencester, I thought that was recently revamped reborn revitalised and relaunched etc.

Hi Paul, yes the one in Pencester.
I have just been onto Company house website and the bit under their business number states. Quote" PROPOSAL TO STRIKE OFF" Don't know what that means exactly but I am sure someone will know.

Didn't this happen before, about 18 months ago? I remember it was shut down overnight and reopened a few days later over a similar problem.

I had a look at the premises earlier, lights were off and the shutter was locked with signs pasted to both the shutter and windows saying business as usual Wednesday.

business as usual minus 1 me thinks.
I am trying to tread carefully for Paul B's sake

doubtful vic, unless one of the stall holders take it on, which they might, although we do have a lot of nice good quality cafes in town with places like Dovorian.

I had heard about it being put into administration.
Apparantlty (so I'm told) the monies paid to the lease-holder wasn't passed on.
Sad for the stall-holders there - all trying to earn a crust.

iknow i am repeating some other poster/s, but did this not happen before?
been rather sad to see it go into decline, the few traders in there try to spread out their wares as best as possible.
i feel sure that, credit crunch or not, dover should be able to keep a small indoor market running.

Yes it did happen a while ago Howard; the lady who owned the cafe took over the lease, redecorated the whole inside and had some new stall-holders come in.
As Dover Loyalty Scheme Manager, I helped launch the new opening and it did well for a while.

Howard the lady was never a town councillor. The people who ran it before did not go down the same way it has this time. I do know the full story on that not the story depicted by the more recent lease holder.
People will always tell you what they want you to believe

After meeting the stall-holders today they were in a buoyant mood as they are looking forward to working with their new Letting Agents - Thanet based Harrison & Co. The Cafe at this moment in time is looking for a new leasee, I was told that there has been some interest to take over the enterprise.
I wish the stall-holders all the best for the future, as Dover needs the indoor market and they seemed to be getting a lot of custom whilst I was there.

i hope that you are right barry, it is in a prime position and people like poking around market stalls.
there has always seemed a team spirit in there, with stall holders covering for each other, if one wants to go for a cup of tea or a cigarette.

Well done getting that info Barry. Good to see the place up and running again and it seems without too much of a hiccup.
