Having now walked along it a couple of times, I think it will hugely benefit from the marina starting to fill up as well as a bit of sun.
My only concerns were
a) cyclist - already responded to by Neil &
b) the railings - they are very nice but having seen a number of young children climb up and easily put their heads and torsos between the upper bars, they strike me as far from child friendly and possibly unsafe, Of course adults must take responsibility for their kids but we should ensure our built environment doesnt present clear risks

Yes Ross, there’s a wide gap between the third and fourth horizontal bars (counting from the bottom) through which a child could easily climb while a parent is briefly distracted. I do think this is a fairly serious issue.

I don't think the railings are a problem. They are no worse than the vastly superior Folkestone Harbour Arm which attracts far more people and events.

Rubbish. Even the youngest Dover toddlers are far too fat to squeeze between the bars.

The benefit of being a port that hasn't seen a ferry for nearly 20 years !

Considering what was previously in place I think the momentarily distracted parents will have nothing to worry about!

No reason why a port town can't attract visitors. You can't just blame everything that is wrong with Dover because it has a ferry service.

of course not, but it goes severely restrict what you might be able to do with the harbour and the piers/harbour arms.

I didn't say it can't, Dover probably already attracts a lot more visitors with the Castle, White Cliffs, etc, but people moan saying If Folkestone can have x than why can't Dover, but it is a lot less practical in an operational port

The population of Folkestone is much higher than that of Dover which makes it a more viable location for any start up business.

Sorry about the duplication my phone was on a go slow and I thought my first reply had failed.

The Admiralty pier will be closed from 28th June until the 11th July due to this event, the security around the Duchess of Cornwall's visit and the various works that will need to be done on the ship whilst she alongside both before and after the christening.

The new Marina is really swell
Q. There is talk of the new marina suffering from swell.
A. A few members of the berth holder community have raised concerns about the degree of swell in the new marina.H R Wallingford, an experienced, independent civil engineering and environmental hydraulicscompany, had created the originalhydrodynamic analysisfor Port of Dover. In order to gain actual data, Port of Dover have installed a wave rider buoy to capture the actual swell movement. We are monitoring the marina, and once a reasonable time series of data has been compiled we will provide this to H R Wallingford for them to review their analysis for us.The original modelling predicted waves within acceptable limits based on The Yacht and Harbour Association Guidelines and, on conclusion of the investigations, we will be in a better position to evaluate the findings in relation to the design guidelines.

Not caught it open before. I guess your mast's safe if you don't drift too far to starboard.

Passing though. Just a few cormorants in the new marina.
