  Food hygiene and basic nutrition should be part of the national curriculum. As Roger says, it's mostly common sense. But some things, like cooking and storage temperatures, are a bit more scientific, and the rules for preventing cross-contamination make huge amounts of extra work in a commercial kitchen which doesn't happen at home.
