The union is more up in arms about Irish Ferries' emergence into Dover than DFDS. The former have used foreign crews for a long time, the latter employ many local staff.

Interesting business model, unaccompanied freight which both Sheerness and Calais both have room to park up. Makes sense. No need for virus tests for drivers.

I think they are a good company with good ships, I know nothing about their wages etc ,but they take on local crews and do apprentices for the young which is a great help and lets hope they keep that going.

Keith you're pathetic, there was no mention of Irish ferries until Ray pointed it out to you!
You lie continually and are not even man enough to accept when you are wrong, no wonder your party booted you out, grow up!

I have worked both on the ferrys as crew and a welder for a company and that was on all companys which have ships in Dover, and in the old days Ramsgate, and Folkestone and the wage working as crew was better then as a company welder so I do know what I am talking about or I would not say it. And sir will had done work on the IRISH FERRY I think that was in Liverpool and it is post 13 that does not know any thing about working on ships .I do not know but has he worked on them or even been on one.Yes we could all do with a bigger wages packet and I was working on a ship the night we had the big wind etc in 1987 and yes it was hard and I was sick working as a welder that night outside but at times like that you can not help the conditions .The crew cabins are good food is good so what conditions is he on about,he does not know himself.

I have worked on dirty jobs you have not heard of like cleaning out ships sludge tanks, welding up inside a ships funnel and still hot at times cleaning out the heads, fitting Ships bellows and painting out ships engine rooms with the ship on the move, worked in most of the UK ship yards, doing refits repaceing hot rivets and welding in vold areas of the ship. the list goes on and on working down the pits doing repairs, working in sewers with breathing apparatus on ,and the one I hate doing was the hospital very hot incinerators and what you found in them and the needals ,so do not go on about conditions you do not know what the word means,I still have my seamans discharge book which tells you what I done and what ship.and worked on warships.the list still goes on but I will not say anymore about it.And Mr Samsum goes on about conditions I only wish he had worked long side me at times,

Keith - please try and understand.
Brian posted a link to an article about an imminent new service to be run by DFDS out of Sheerness. You then responded with your bleat about poor wages and poor conditions, ending with a rhetorical 'need I go on?'
I then tried to point out that there was genuine concern amongst the local seafaring community not about DFDS who are actually held in some relative esteem by the unions, but about the new Irish ferries service where there is a history of foreign crews.
In other words, you seemed to have got your facts wrong again. A sort of local left wing equivalent of David Davis.
I don't always see eye to eye with some on here but please have the cojones to admit you got the wrong end of the stick, eh?

To get things correct I'm man enough to admit I didn't read this correctly
And will start an alternative post on Irish ferries .
As a side line I resigned from labour because of conflict with the job I was doing at the time
So those facts need correcting
At the time the labour party wanting me to stay it was decision to go
But I only reply to put facts in
