    Keith - first of all there is nothing wrong with profit. What you suggest is simply idealistic and will not work. Even Co-ops and Mutual have a profit motive. Profit is a positive thing and does not come simply through higher charges but efficient and effective operations. You need the risk of profit and loss, the risk potential for loss is just as important as profit.

    If what you say was workable then Local Authorities would be a model of efficient working....
