18:1166540 I took this image yesterday from the Prince of Wales pier which shows some large building project going on below, with much metalwork for reinforced concrete. It`s on the old Hoverport slipway. Is this the start of the new cruise terminal plan?

08:0666617I can visualise it all, digging a deep hole in the hoverport, and once again discovering a massive new coal seam. A new railway line put in for coal trains to run from Dover again, to feed our hungry power station`s. Coastal vessel`s arriving to fill their hold`s with best Kent steam coal, massive employment opportunities for locals, money pouring into local business`s!! I`m sorry but other`s on here have their dream`s, so why shouldn`t I?

08:4566620Ok.thanks alot but all very good ,but I am going open the coal blog later on,and also what could be done to the old Hoverport,we do not need the ferrys anymore, with forward thinking and funding we can get by very nicely without them and if we have to the D.H.B as it stands today. And still stay a Royal Port.

You do talk some rubbish! Dover needs the ferries.
I also want the Port to remain in 'our' hands because I'm afraid that should it be sold off that all the profits made would be divided amongst the investors and not put back into the port.

11:1966642Marek I am on about the Town,my wording might not be at good about it.We need the port but we must look outside the box and see how we can get more of the public to use the town and what it has to offer and the marina does just that. And also I have always said the the port must stay a Royal Port I have said all this before, the ferrys will always be there but it is my very strong feeling that they will be fewer in numbers and bigger. Also at all the meetings I go to I get up as amember of the public saying the port must not be sold off.read what I say before shouting at me.And I am coming over to your part of the world in Oct/if I am not in Hos/then.

11:3366644What's one of the first things people think of when you say Dover - white cliffs, castle and ....... FERRIES!! You should listen to Marek Vic, he talks a lot more sense than you at times.
Really looking forward to the coal thread (NOT!!!). Haven't we been through all that before on here? Once again you will disagree with anyone who says you're wrong and we will get another long and boring thread (like the ukip one).
Still I guess it improves your postings score

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

11:4966648But Vic, how can DHB think out of the box when their hands are tied by the Charter ?
There isn't really much money in the Marina and it is the ferry passengers that bring in the £££. Without major investment where are you expecting the room to come from for a bigger marina ?
Been nice knowing you :)

13:3866661the difference between the ferries and the marina, from the point of view of the town is that people who use the marina do sometimes use the shops in town unlike the ferry passengers.
from the point of view of the harbour board then the marina is small fry to them, the ferries are where the major income comes from.

13:4866664I have no wish to see the ferries go because of the work they bring, in the way of jobs, but the sighs are we are going to lose some of them and will be left with P.O ONLY.

If Dover is left with only one carrying company (P&O) then you will find a dramatic increase in prices. Over here we only have Condor Ferries and the prices are steep in comparison to Dover. Competition is what is required and quality friendly cost effective service.

14:0866670Marek.The ferrys are not the only Asset the port can offer and there are lots more in the way of hard cash it can bring to the town and the biggest of them is Lesisure by the way of A bigger Marina etc,and i do not think you are right about the prices of the ferrys the competition you talk about comes from the tunnel not on how many ferrys companys we have in the port.We could have our own lessisure park in the Hoverport lots of unused room there.Yes it would need funds to do but nothing like the £400million they are talking about with T2etc as I said before with the forcast of less ferrys ,that will make room for the liners with out T2 going ahead even the DHB are now saying the port might not need T2.

How many people do the ferries carry each year?
How many train or car passengers use the tunnel?
How many local people are employed at the Eastern Docks?
How many local people are employed by the Chunnel?
Work it out yourself! Dover needs every bit of business it can get.We have lost the pits, the mills, the engineering and are you seriously advocating that we lose the ferries as well?.
