The 24 men were held in slavery in a Gypsey camp, also known as a travellers' site.
Over 20 others had escaped some weeks ago, which led the Police to conduct a weeks long investigation before swooping in.

The enslaved people were living in horse boxes and tents, covered in excrements.

The Polcie believe that the Gypsey site in question may be the centre of a nation-wide slavery ring.

The men had been recruited at soup kithchens and benefits offices and promised work, but were never paid, and beaten and threatened when trying to escape.

The reports on this news do not explain if the victims were also Gypsies, but state that the victims had been sent to work in many places around the country and as far as Scandinavia.

The closest I could get from the news sites to the background of the victims is that they were very vulnerable people, whose disappearence from society can easily happen without being noticed.

Until firther news comes from the Polcie, it's hard to come to any conclusions, so we'll have to wait and see.
