had an interesting chat with long time forum member and town councillor, sheila amos this morning on the above.
we have all seen sheila zipping around the town in hers making lewis hamilton look like a slouch.
what she wants to do is form a scooter club, hopefully doing displays and the like.
there are some around the country that are successfull, car parks or similar are cordoned off for a period of time while events are carried out.
if interested please contact sheila on 01304 214290.

It is also to araise awareness of the disabled, I do not know if you have heard of the Red Wheelies, if not have a look on you tube, and see what they do, hopefully we will be running alongside them, at the moment they are the only display team in England, they have raised funds for MS, as well as getting the message out to some of the ignorant ones that think the disabled should not be on this planet. What I would like for Dover is to include the motorised wheelchairs as well as scooters, so anyone out there with a disability that would like to join up please get in touch
Bloody great idea! People who use mobility aids tend to get sidelined, so reclaiming the streets is a fab notion with a bit of fun thrown in. Love it.

Good luck with the idea Sheila. I saw the Red Wheelies on tv a while ago, they certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves.

don't think so brian, my understanding is that areas like under used car parks can be used for the purpose.
we have areas set aside for skate boarders, why not mobility scooters on say a sunday or bank holiday?

howard, thats ok for displays, pencester park is allso ok,but walking down the town and getting cliped by mobilaty scooters is just as being cliped by cyclists is just as bad.on saying that sheila is a responsable mobilaty scooter driver.

The Red Wheelies did a display at Fowlmead earlier in the summer which by all accounts was very good.

I can't wait for this. All those pavement chariots whizzing round Pencester, driving up ramps, leaping over a row of cars, driving through a blazing hoop.........
No, hang on, that's motorbikes isn't it? Still, there's a thought Sheila!

Sheila.
It might be a bit late for you this year but you are welcome to come along to the Kent Miners Festival. Next Monday, with any display you have, I have tried to get the Red Wheelies there but they have not responded.
Please,Let me know if you want to come along?

Thank you for the invite, but not organised yet, have recruited a few drivers but not yet started, will be meeting with the Red Wheelies, and getting a few tips on how things are done, and hopefully go from there.
Brian
Yes I agree that there are some who are not careful, and give us a bad name (same as bikers), I have never hit anyone or clipped anyone, I did have a incident with an East European person who run across Folkestone Rd, come between 2 cars straight out in front of me, and I clipped him, he was full of appologies, but frightened the life out of me. But there are also some ignorant and inconsiderate car drivers about, park there cars on the paths, so prams or us cannot get by, and we have to go on the road, and when we do go on the road, which we are entitled as we are taxed, we are shouted at and abused, and told to get of the f***ing Road, and people like us should be put down, not very nice.
