leafing through the council website i was stunned to come across the headline "new location for dover vic".
the mind worked overtime, i assumed that they planned to send mr matcham to libya so that he could stand as in independent in benghazi south west.
sadly it was some stuff about the visitor information centre.

I have also just returned from the River Parish Council meeting .You will be pleased to know Vic and I agree on one subject support for the Crabble Corn Mill .Every household received a leaflet re the attraction of the Mill and also a form to become a friend of the mill .I think i joined a long time ago but ive just sent of the form with my subs .If every house hold in River did this we could see the required repairs done .
I also advised Vic that a few years ago we had a team of helpers clearing the River .Picture in the Dover Express .I wa s slimer then and had tight mauve trousers on .Those were the days .

Sue, with the cost of oil going up - yesterday it hit $120 -, and coal mines extinct in Kent

, the corn mill could be used to grind corn, without any energy expenses involved!
Could this proposal of mine make headway in River Parish Council?

The mill does sell its own corn, and has been doing that for years .all that can be done to save the mill is being done at this time unless you can over about £6000 or more. So your proposal is outdated. you can always walk out there and see for yourself.and offer to help.

Why is it called a Corn Mill did they originally only grind corn as opposed to the normal wheat etc.

Well I have just got back in from the mill ,I am told it is called the corm mill because over 100 years go on the river were lots of mills most were paper mills but they all had the same address so they all had names and what they were turning out so the public and the postman would know what mill to go to,Corn and Wheat are the same ,some call it Wheat, some call it Corn, so that is why the name Corn came about. Thank you.

Thanks Vic, seems strange it was called that though rather than after the miller.
For your future information in case you need it

, wheat is a completely different plant to corn (maize).

I think the probable correct name for Maize is SWEET CORN? Would not have been grown here for food 100 years ago??
I would think the name 'corn' as historically used in England has meant wheat, barley, oats....?
