Just proves that it's not what you know, it's who you know. Just like politics, must have been a good training ground for you Reg!

Middle East excellent for information gathering but `intelligence`from that source did not hold a candle to the Indian Grapevine.
Must swop notes sometime.

Middle East Countries trying to adopt democracy;
Libya..Jordan..Iraq..Tunisia..Egypt..Yemen..Syria..Saudia Arabia..Bahrain..Iran................Some have Oil...............Some do not
They all deserve their chance to enjoy some,if not all,of our privilegies.
Their cultures will not be to our standards.
The west must be very patient................but if Oil is involved...............they will not.
Initially Tunisia have best chance.................they do not have Oil.

tunisia has always been the most liberal with general attitudes in society than others around them.
some sort of democracy might suit them, difficult to see how they will form a government at this time with so many parties and independent candidates.

Tunisia has the benefit (?) of historical French colonial rule so a little of French style democracy might have rubbed off on them. Likewise Libya and Italy. Didn't work with Algeria or Lebanon though, both of which were French, or Ethiopia which was Italian.

The Italians didn't remain long in Ethiopia, Peter, only 5 years.
The Scots marched them out in 1941.
