Well it's only five days until Arthur's memorial plaque unveiling so all systems go here. Last Saturday we went to West Norwood cemetery to tidy up, figure out where stuff was going and check out the pub we will be visiting after the unveiling, The Hope, to speak to them about the catering. I know I'm starting to get stressed out because yesterday I sent someone an invite to Arthur's plague unveiling. I was expecting a reply asking 'Black or Bubonic?!'

I also contacted someone who is forwarding the invite along to as many members of the Mowll family as possible. Arthur of course married Mary Kilvington Mowll, a local woman at Whitfield Parish Church. I will actually be unveiling two separate plaques including one for Mary and two of their children, Mary (known as Molly) and Grace Sarah who are also buried there.

I'll send PaulB some photos afterwards; all we have to do now is keep our fingers crossed for a dry slot around 12:30!

That's funny about the Mowll family coming from Whitfield because Mowll and Mowll solicitors have moved up to Whitfield - a kind of "coming home" you could say.

Yes I saw that Roger. I did e mail them earlier this year but didn't get a reply. I have a contact who is a distant relative and has traced the Mowll family back through many generations and he is e mailing the family invites in case any of them are in and around London and want to come along.

If any Mowll's are looking in they will of course be more than welcome, as will anybody who wants to join us.

Just a bit of an update. It's now five months on from the plaque unveiling and we went over to West Norwood cemetery earlier today to check on the graves of Arthur and his family and tidy up a bit. I'm pleased to say that the plaques are still looking good after the very cold spell. I am still campaigning for the restoration of the graves and have much of the funding in place but it's all the red tape that is hindering things! Here's a couple of pics.

Kilvington Mowll was his wife Mary's family (Kilvington) and maiden (Mowll) names. Hephzibah was Arthur's mothers name so I guess he decided to use it as a middle name for daughter, she was known as Molly but alas died aged 5 weeks. I think Hephzibah is a great old name! Beresford was a popular name of the day and Arthur also used it as a middle name for one of his two sons. Incidentally Arthur didn't like the name Arthur very much and often went by the name of Beresford Pite or A Beresford Pite.

No problem Sid, I am always happy to talk about Arthur. Yes I believe the solicitors are distant relatives of Arthur's wife. I have contacted them a couple of times (even before the plaque unveiling last November) but never got a response. I didn't want anything from them other than to let them know as there may have been older family members interested as I unveiled a plaque for Mary Kilvington Mowll and their daughters too, not just Arthur. I do have a contact who has been researching the Mowll family (he's a distant relative) and he also put the word out.
