As some as you know I was invited to a meeting with Cllr Watkins today, Tim Ingleton was there too and we had a full and frank discussion about DDC's plans for the town.
The overriding outcome was that we all want the same thing, a busy and thriving town, its also fair to say there is frustration at the pace things sometimes move at.
Regardless, is was really good to be invited, I enjoyed our meeting and was pleased, and not a little surprised, that they would like me to return in the future to discuss progress.
Until then, normal hostilities will resume

Had a good meeting with David. Objectives are virtually the same. Time scales & delivery are the areas of contention. Constraints identified & frustations expressed. We covered a wide range of matters & will continue to meet to update progress & opportunities.
Thanks for your time David.

Did he request the return of the towns stocks and gallows?

Hi David,
Glad you had a good meeting with Paul and Tim Ingleton.
I had a similar invite from Paul to Whitfield about five years ago, and it was indeed a useful and convivial exercise to see first hand what the council are doing regarding Dover's regeneration.
All the best and regards to you too, Paul W,
Andy

Hi Andy, hope you're keeping well.
Out of interest, the schemes you discussed back then, did they come to fruition?

Thanks for your good wishes David - hope you're well too.
In answer to your question: we mainly discussed the DTIZ, from what I recall. So there's your answer!
Cheers,
Andy

And just to pre-empt any potential question from Howard: yes I think we had tea. And biscuits. And they were very nice.

David.
I am pleased to hear you have had successful talks with Paul & Tim.
I cannot say that politics does not come into this because it does but we can make a difference if we put politics aside and work together for the good of our communities.
Both Paul & Tim are community minded and sitting together and talking with them, is a move in the right direction.

thanks for info andy although you don't mention whether it was earl grey or a bog standard breakfast blend. things like that denote where you stand in the pecking order at ddc. if a packet of chocolate hob nobs were broken open in your honour then that means you are on the "a" list, conversely if you were offered a no frills garibaldi, the one that looks like one large biscuit but easily splits into 2 leaving dried fruit sticking out the side, the omens are not good.

Howard you are just jealous that you have not been invited to the Palace for tea and hobnobs.
This thread is testament to the value of proper communication and dialogue vs the usual slanging matches we see on this forum.

Peter, Paul won't mind we saying that there were occasions when we were close to slanging.
However, we're all adults, as long as we don't get personal we can always work around differences.

Indeed I don't David.
You could describe the language as "earthy" on occasion. Probably mine.
I suspect there will areas or timings that we will never agree on.
I have to work to systems or try to circumvent them to speed up process.
Generally our objectives are the same.
Our frustations are similar.
On timescales & third party influences I believe we hold common views.
Bring Andy with you next time David.

Yes but face to face meetings like yours help everyone realise that there's more than one way of looking at things, that everyone is just as committed to eventual success, and that if we stop screaming at each other and work together, we shall get there in the end.

not totally true peter, cllr walkden, mr nunn and myself were summoned to meet the high priest of waste sir roger walton and his able lieutenants a year or so back.
ok it's not quite the same as the fuhrer bunker but the coffee was nicely reheated in our honour and the biscuits were those rectangular ones with a coating of sugar on the top, very nice they were too. i noted that the best before date on the packet had been scribbled over though.

Howard, your ability to reduce a serious thread to total inanity is, fortunately, undiminished.
