The town council is only a parish council like River and the rest , does not have any power over the town or much say ,it is a wast of the tax payers money all £600.000 + of it ,yes I was a member of it many years ago and also other parish councils, we have far to many of them should be cut by half with the town council being the first to go.

I will ignore post 22 as parish councils/Town councils are the lowest form of democracy at this time in local govt.
If we all agree 3 councils to be to much getting rid of KCC and amalgamating the District councils in east kent.
I think I have pointed out the flaws in last nights decision, forget about the 2 geezers concentrate on the decision itself.
At the end of the day no 1 Cllr should have the right to suspend another Cllr without producing evidence, and a right of appeal. it does show DTC standing orders do not fit into a modern govt and follow the ideals of the Localism Act 2011.
They will hope everyone will forget it, but of course it won't go away and will continue to be highlighted.
It's correct the ballot box should be the ones to select/reject our councillors.
Also if we ever come to a serious charge then all 18 cllrs should be provided with all the information and a vote taken as to whether or not to take such drastic action.
I have put in some time ago to change the standing orders
now you can see why..

Sod the Local Press - this is Private Eye 'Rotten Boroughs' fodder!
Hopefully someone is sending off chapter and verse to Lord Gnome at this moment?

Lets be clear Wanstall is still able to act as a councillor and represent his ward, he has however been suspended from any committees he was on and from representing DTC at external functions and meetings, both of which are supposedly privileges - a little lick being grounded as a naughty teen.
This does not detract from the unacceptable concentration of power in the hands of one councillor which most absolutely should be challenged and hopefully changed

Ross
I don't think there is any confusion, Cllr Wanstall will go on representing those that elected him to do so. that doesn't change.
On the issue of the suspension as I have said I have requested even before this suspension took place that the standing orders needed updating, and I understand we are moving in that direction.
No one has to date justified to me(or produced any evidence)as to why a suspension has taken place.
Only a serious police matter should a suspension take place.
No way should any council leave it in the hands of one person with no evidence or right to question or appeal.
Or goes against everything DTC is supposed to stand for

Again forgive my ignorance but shouldn't the Town Clerk have a role to play in such matters? Is there any resource (external or internal) who provides guidance on what is appropriate and what is not?
