Ive had this info through from Dover Town Council
..........................................................................................................
Confirmation that the Mayor will be running another Business Forum on Fri 26 March, 12-2pm. Could you put that info on Dover forum please? Hope to see you there. All businesses welcome. There will be a sandwich and a cuppa.
Theme will be to build on the promising start already made, + discussions concerning the concept of having a regular market in Dover, something on which opinion needs to be judged. If those who want to come could confirm to reception at Town Council on 242625, that would be great.

No dont think I got that one Roger, have just double checked and cant see it. But I know the idea of a regular market is something you are keen on through your position as Dover Business Support Manager. Are the Dover Chamber of Commerce taking part in this meeting? they seem to have similar aims and be in harmony with the Town Council.

Just noticed this and I'll try and attend as its an important thing. However unless I had logged in and seen this post I would have been none the wiser.
How were local businesses targetted and informed about these events? I never seem to get any communication about stuff like this, is it because I live up the hill in Whitfield?
I run 3 business that to a greater or lesser extent have something to offer Dover and the wider community. I'd love to meet and speak with the powers that be within the Dover C of C.
I approached them about internet design middle of last year and was told that a company in Hampshire had been engaged to do the site! (which still is live I hasten to add) nice to see that they encourage local business
Sorry rant over!!

Hi Matt
Dover Business Support was launched last November amongst a lot of fanfare and many high hopes for the future of the Town.
I was interviewed for the job and became the manager, having an office in Town.
Helping and supporting local businesses and coming up with initiatives that will help move the Town forward is what I've been working on for a number of years, but this was the first opportunity to do it officially.
I can contact around 1500 people via email with public information emails, ones on up and coming events and local business news. It's a shame that you haven't read any of my postings on here before, as I'm sure I could have helped you.

Just thought I would remind people about this event today at the Town Council offices.
Sue Jones is making an effort to boost things but one cant help but feel that there's a bit of a cloud over Dover Business today though, with the news about Roger W and the Chamber.

I tried calling Sue yesterday to let her know, but she was in a meeting; I did leave a message, but will contact her again today.
Roger
What is the point of turning up? They will have nothing new to say except maybe some excuses for toppping Roger although I suspect the teflon will be getting well used. For me, a one man band, time is money, and I would rather waste it on something else if I am going to waste it.

I agree Sid, perhaps the last business to leave Dover will switch the lights off.

Sid - these have been very good and useful in the past and dialogue is always good. Sadly this will be the first one of these that I will miss because I will be attending previously arranged business meeting at Canterbury Cricket Club where I will be trying to attract some business to Dover from Canterbury. The Chamber will be represented at the Mayor's meeting.
Sue, with all due respect, nothing you list will generate one single job for our community. Someone has to attend I suppose, but those events are hardly marching our town forward are they?
Barry, dialogue = jaw jaw. I see NO action on jobs from DDC/DTC/COC, but I do hear about lots of talking. The evidence for my claim is all around us and can be seen without straining the eyeballs. All that has been delivered so far is DECAY and failure.
I have nothing but admiration for those who keep trying to make this place a better town to live in, but let's not kid ourselves. In 24 years of living here I have not seen one improvement worthy of the name, and the blame for that lies squarely with those who purport to represent us, seen through the bodies mentioned above. For some reason they think one off events are the answer when clearly they are just trimmings, which is what they will only ever be. Where is the substance?
As I've said before, Dover dithers while Canterbury, Ashford, Westgate get on an do. Again the evidence is there to see.
This may be construed as negativity, but unless we face the facts, stop playing political games, get more effective by doing less talking and more doing, Dover will be dead before we know it.

Either Sid you are winding me up or you have missed the point .What i tried to illustrate is you dont give up when the going is tough One forum poster states he will not join the Chamber ,John says he knows of two who are withdrawing .No wonder Dover is like it is no one stays the course .
I for myself enjoyed a lunch in Kearsney Abbey Bliss It looks terrific .
Businesses fail as the general public donot offer support .
Yesterday I needed cash I could have got it in M and S but no I called in and got it from the Post Office .Today I have been in the Post Office and bought two items .You need to support these small businesses
I dont suppose the CoC could afford to keep a post going Jumping off the ship in troubled waters does no good at all

Please read my post on the sacking of Roger this is the meeting I went to,sorry about that.
I'm not winding you up Sue, for once. I am also not missing the point and would respectfully suggest, your Kearsney lunch sentence reinforces exactly what I am trying to say.
The public don't support Dover businesses because there is nothing in the town to draw them there. Why visit a place that is almost dead when you can visit Canterbury, Ashford or even Folkestone and be surrounded by progress?
Let's not forget it was our politicos who rejected McArthur Glen and all it's jobs, why? Why reject a project that will be good for the local community? Why reject something that was destined to bring non-Dovorians to Dover? Who can explain that decision and convince us it was a good one?
I also ask again, what has our MP done for Dover? This is my fourth time of asking and so far, not one answer.
I now ask, what will the other candidates do for Dover?
Lastly, I ask, when are our political and business representatives going to deliver something beneficial to Dover?

Sid ,I and many Conservatives fought for Mcarthur Glenn. It was voted through at planning but the Labour group over turned it .I have never seen or heard anything like it .THe outlet at the Sea front was pushed through .very quickly.
It was the same with the Big TV this time it was Conservative backed not Labour .Canterbury did not want it .I voted against time and time again .
If people were not like sheep and thought of the bigger picture no pun intended we might be moving forward .Its all to do with power
Back to Kearsney Abbey .I guard it with my life .Im still trying to get the toilets back in Russell gardens .The people sitting next to me at lunch were from Folkestone .
Guard it with our lives
Have you seen all the daffs around River .Not those kind Sid £20 a year and what a difference it makes .I can afford it all that money I collect from DDC ??

Baahh,Sue I told you why I voted for the TV screen, what you are saying you voted for the new shopping centre which became Mcarther Glen, but against the new TV.I will always vote for new things in the Town, yet I appreciate the History that we have and will always try to open up anything that makes that History come alive.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
