Well...never a dull moment down here on our glorious seafront. Took a glance out the window not expecting to see anything other than the usual tumbleweed blowing down main street..and right before my eyes I see the Mayor herself..Cllr Ronnie Philpott posing shovel in hand with Rev David Ridley in the seafront garden...formerly the fountain of note. Both had shovels and were lifting the sod in traditional fashion. What it was all about is anyone's guess...might be able to find out..or indeed if anyone knows please do the necessary and post it below.

This isnt on Mayor Ronnie's list of official engagements so dont know what it was about. Perhaps some ceremony is scheduled.. what with Rev David Ridley being there turning the sod in harmony. Anyway...was able to pinch a few pics with my zoom lens !

I did see that thread at the time but didnt spot the bit about the garden..but its a great idea. A rose garden. Great idea.. I wonder who came up with that idea...will be a very nice addition down here on the seafront. Perhaps the Mayor was only drafted in at the lastish moment as nothing mentioned in her diary.
ps : didnt recognise the photographers doing the snappin'?

Do not think there has been anything arrange after today, only that the earth will be as in gardeners terms turned over, and rose bushes will be planted.
Things do change though and the rose garden is a lovely idea and what better place than the seafront, but as Sue has mentioned above The Hearld Wood near whitfield round about, must now be some 10years old so the tree's must be well establised tree's by now.

Herald Wood is well over 20years maturity & a tree has been planted for each poor soul who died in that tragic diasaster.
The Men of Trees were responsible for the layout and care.
It is a quiet & tranquil place .

I'd seen that but didn't realise its significance - or about the trees; thanks for letting me know Paul(W).

They shouldHoward, they would have been invited to the tree planting ceremony at the time.
The Channel Ferry Diasaster Fund was actively supported by the local Rotary Club who undertook welfare visits & helped validate the claims.
I believe £6m + was donated & distributed to those survivors & families of those lost on that tragic night.
