Who cares, most of them are a waste of time and money, a pure ego trip.

My monies on g cowan
Or s Jones
With regard to any mayor they all do highlight a positive Dover image
If course up until one particular one who went world wide with his video.
Whilst an idea the cost of going to the public to decide the mayor would be big and I'm sure the public wouldn't be happy footing the bill

Cllr Gordon Cowan was elected Mayor tonight. Deputy Mayor is Cllr Dominic Howden. The Mayor appointed Cadet Frazer Chapman as his cadet for the year, and Cllr Sue Jones was thanked for all her work as Mayor during the past year.

Good. For the first time in years we have a mayor who will not be the town clerk’s poodle.

Poor old Gordon has recently lost his income stream as a KCC Councillor (allowances and expenses 16/17 £22,118) and as a DDC Councillor (allowances and expenses 17/18 £4787.43)
Watch his expenses! Just saying.
