The strongly flavoured dark brown spread made from brewer's yeast has joined Rice Crispies, Shreddies, Horlicks and Ovaltine prohibited in Denmark under legislation forbidding the sale of food products with added vitamins as threat to public health.
Many well known breakfast cereal and drink brands have already been banned or taken off supermarket shelves after Danish legislation in 2004 restricted foods fortified with extra vitamins or minerals.
But Marmite had escaped notice as an exotic import for a small number of ex-pats until the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration telephoned Abigail's, a Copenhagen shop selling British food, to ban the famous yeast spread.
"I don't eat it myself, I don't like it but Marmite was one of our best selling products. Not a day goes by without someone coming in and asking for it," said Marianne Ørum, the shop owner.
"All the English people here are shaking their heads in disbelief and say that it is insane. I agree but it is the law. It's becoming impossible to run a business in this country. We are not allowed to do anything anymore. It is the way Denmark is going."

How daft.
I would have thought that most non fresh packaged food contained added minerals, surely salt (sodium chloride) counts as an added mineral.

Let's stop buying their bacon and butter..that would hurt their exports. UK is the largest importer of their rashes.

what i found interesting in the article is that the danes normally are very euro sceptic and want their government to be more assertive, now they have the people are still not happy.

Peter, they eat Danish blue. I wonder how long it will take them to realise that this cheese has added bacteria to make it become like that.
They copied it from English Stilton.

Danish security forces say they have seized 18 tonnes of Marmite bound for Copenhagen after a twelve hour gunfight during which at least sixty people were killed.
Customs officials are reporting it to be the second largest haul of the substance - with an estimated street value of $22m - to be taken since Marmite was banned in the country, just 24 hours ago.
The shipment is believed to have belong to Denmark's most powerful cartels - the notorious Marmitijos crew - and had been concealed inside a shipment of marijuana.
"We were very lucky," customs chief Markus Jensen revealed. "This stuff could have been in the kitchens and pantries of Copenhagen before breakfast."
"It wouldn't be so bad if it was to be sold in its purest form but lower level Marmite dealers are cutting it with honey and even raspberry preserves, which could be even more dangerous, especially for those who have resorted to injecting the stuff."

Love marmite. It's my only source of Vit B12. I'm horrified to think it could be banned from Denmark. Well when i renew my pass port i won't be going to Denmark. If i can't have marmite on toast when i visit my long lost inlaws then they can come to me
