Chris this forum is no different to any other site that allows comments you have to expect adverse views along with those that approve or agree.
Maybe if we were kept better informed by those in the know about why things did or did not happen we might be happier.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Very interesting reading all the above quotes, However, I admit I don't visit this page as often as I should. As for quote 27, is this a rare occurrence? as I sweep my step and pick up litter from my road on a daily basis. As for quote 27: I agree a cable car would be like a visit to Alton Towers, however whilst i do not agree with pinching ideas from other parts of the world, I do however, like the funiculaire railway that takes you up a lot of the way to the Sacre Coeur & Montmartre in Paris. and not in the least bit did I feel I was on a funfair ride.
As for bulldozing the whole of Dover, I think NOT as in quote 30, history, history, history.
As quote 36 says it is much safer to stay off Dover Forum!
Not sure about that, I ran about on a Sunday helping someone in distress, only to be lied to at a later date, my saving grace is that I saved an animal that day!, thank the Lord.

My word, why bother putting yourself forward as a volunteer when keyboard warriors, posting under pseudonyms, are so quick to excoriate. As a founder member and director of the Town Team I asked countless times on here if people were prepared to give up a bit of time, as usual no offers were received. Lets clear some things up: we were given £10,000, it was held by DDC who made us jump through all sorts of hoops to get a penny of it. We started the market, engaged local college kids in painting hoardings, cleaned up empty shops and decorated with prints and posters and ran a scheme where local entrepreneurs were given advice and money in order to set up businesses.
Christine.a, whoever you are, why not set up a commercial estate agents in the town, compete with Tersons and show us all how it should be done?
Nah, you're too busy banging away at your keyboard in your dressing gown, giving unsolicited and useless advice.
Well done Simon, well done Neil, keep up the good work, ignore the moaning nobodies that peek out from behind their net curtains.

Lots of other issues brought up, but I will leave you all now and look forward to seeing you all at the various groups that actually do try and DO something for our town rather than spit about those who do from a keyboard.
Comment like this from Simon Crowley are indicative of a sad judgemental attitude, when people, who are Townspeople put their viewpoints forward. This is a discussion, Simon Crowley, or maybe the Town Team has put up a thread, describing what they want to happen. You will have different modes of thoughts on this. Do you not deal with different opinions when you are doing your job as a Commercial Estate Agent. Are you so timid and scared, that you cannot accept or absorb another opinion?
Yes, there is a Town Team, and I find John Angell who has long had a business in this town. A very humble, approachable man regarding questions put to him.
I have merely said, that Tersons advertising in certain shops are contradictory with the state of these shops. They should be tidied up, it is not expensive to get soap and water these days.
Any down to earth observations, get hissing fits from those who have the gradiose schemes in their head. However, so often, they just do not happen.
There is a problem, with buildings that are not valued and left. If upkeep is done on a regular basis, it will not cost a fortune in the future. Too often, and Dover People are tired of it, buildings are left to rot and ruin, then pulled down. I am suggesting politely, if the people who are supposed to do their job regarding this. Look after what you already have - Dover will look a brighter and more inviting place.
Regarding the Roman Lawn, I do not see Neil Wiggins mention this. Although Sue Nicolas does.
Underneath there are the Roman Baths, in situ!! Release them, show them!! Original Roman Baths and remains in the Centre of Dover. What a tourist attraction, and what a missed opportunity (again) to acknowledge - The Classicus Brittanicus Roman Fort and Fleet were here. Dover is unique and real.

Christine.a, has it never occurred to you to become active and actually DO something as opposed to hand out advice?

We all face criticism some time or another, I got it in the neck from dog walkers when checking on the livestock on the Western Heights. They complained about what the animals left behind and the flies it attracted. Instead of throwing a hissy fit I patiently explained the importance of grazing the land.

#47, criticism, where justified, is fine. Digging at volunteers while refusing to get off your own backside is unacceptable.
Social media shows a lot of people up for what they are.

Having looked at the artists' impression of what the market square would look like, is the road actually going to be that close to the area where people and children sit and wander about? Something worries me about the traffic and pedestrians mixing quite so openly.

Christine.a, you clearly have a problem with people like me putting myself out to work with people like Nice Mr Angell to try and help Dover!
However, as you haven't identified yourself it is difficult for me to take you too seriously. You think you know who I actually am, and quite happy to diss me on a public forum for my efforts. I would very much welcome meeting you, perhaps we can meet for a coffee and gain some mutual understanding?

"dis me"?
To think I was defending you earlier, you'll be using "innit" next.

However good to see you posting here again.

I like they way Neil Wiggins talks about our history and our rich heritage. I presume he now lives in Dover town?

Hi Jack. I was born in Dover, I spent most of my growing up time in Dover, I attended school in Dover, I was watching the excavation of the Roman Painted House on the day they unearthed the lead lined coffin, I have lived in Dover, I do pretty much ALL of my shopping in Dover (yes, it is possible to buy pretty much everything, except for some specialist/high end branded items, in Dover), I can be seen in Dover pretty much any day of the week unless I happen to be on an overseas project, which I am at the moment, and Dover is my local town in every sense. I may not have my residence within its urban limits, but I spend more time there than I spend at my own house. My Mum went to the Girl's Grammar School, my Dad was Army (Engineers) and settled with my Mum at Eythorne (where she still lives and where I have my house and help to look after her as she gets older and frailer) my Grandfather was in the Observer Core in WW2 at Langdon Cliffs, my Great Grandfather manned the WW1 searchlights on the Western Heights, my Great Great Grandfather was a sea captain operating out of Dover, my family had a shop on London Road up until the late 1930s, etc. etc.
The History of Dover is our History, its Heritage is our Heritage and I don't need to live within its urban wards to know more about what's going on there than many people who do and to devote most of my voluntary free time to trying to make it a better place.

Thanks Neil. A wonderful and concise explanation why someone who doesn't live in Dover should determine its future. Just such a pity you cannot give equal clarity on your position regarding the proposal to dredge the Goodwin Sands of its rich history. Fingers and pies come to mind.

Mr Heart, or whatever your name is, perhaps you could list everything you've done for Dover, I appreciate it will probably run to several pages but on the whole we're a patient lot. It would be unfair if I presumed you were just another keyboard warrior, hiding behind a pseudonym, who specialised in talking rather than doing.

I rather like pseudonyms, you can actually find out if you look around various pages, the correct identities. At least using my pseudo name i can actually have freedom of speech without personal insults, amazing what you can fish out of pages!

The usual ill informed stuff about this project on Facebook, everybody against it the usual refrain "they should sort the town out first". Not sure who " they" are but going by experience most think the Town Council. Trying to explain to people that if the money comes in from the Coastal Communities Fund the money will be ring fenced cuts no ice.
