Hi Jack. I was born in Dover, I spent most of my growing up time in Dover, I attended school in Dover, I was watching the excavation of the Roman Painted House on the day they unearthed the lead lined coffin, I have lived in Dover, I do pretty much ALL of my shopping in Dover (yes, it is possible to buy pretty much everything, except for some specialist/high end branded items, in Dover), I can be seen in Dover pretty much any day of the week unless I happen to be on an overseas project, which I am at the moment, and Dover is my local town in every sense. I may not have my residence within its urban limits, but I spend more time there than I spend at my own house. My Mum went to the Girl's Grammar School, my Dad was Army (Engineers) and settled with my Mum at Eythorne (where she still lives and where I have my house and help to look after her as she gets older and frailer) my Grandfather was in the Observer Core in WW2 at Langdon Cliffs, my Great Grandfather manned the WW1 searchlights on the Western Heights, my Great Great Grandfather was a sea captain operating out of Dover, my family had a shop on London Road up until the late 1930s, etc. etc.

The History of Dover is our History, its Heritage is our Heritage and I don't need to live within its urban wards to know more about what's going on there than many people who do and to devote most of my voluntary free time to trying to make it a better place.
