It's great to see a local greengrocer like Dunford's in Worthington Street who realised the potential of a Street Market, so much so, that they close their shop & operate the stalls in Market Square on a Saturday. Maybe other retail businesses in Dover will do likewise and that way they will gain in the long run

some businesses welcome challenges and turn them into opportunities, others want some level of protectionism.

Come on, Sue. No need to take your business to Canterbury. De Bradelei have several outlets with superb clothes to suit everybody. They are also frequently at extremely good prices. I rarely pay more than £15 to £20 for any item of clothing there and often less. I am sure you do not want to be dowdy!

Mens clothing in DB's is dreadful and I wouldn't be seen dead (or alive) in any of it.

right there sid, but it is great for the ladies, all the quality brands are there.
for me debenhams in folkestone or the outlet in ashford are the nearest places for mens clothes.

If you don't like De Bradelei's, what's the matter with Alan Hughes, Burtons, or up near the Charlton Centre, Phillips and Drew ? We also have M & S too of course.

I can't wait to see a pic of Sid. If he wouldn't be seen dead in De Bradelei clothes he must be something special!!
What's wrong with their sports wear?

Cruise ship in port again, but only found a few wandering passenger`s about this morning. The Market Square tourist man dealt with a few. How long has that scaffolding been up now?

Thank you Diana.
Colin - cruise day-excursions are very big business to cruise companies and they sell them very hard on board ship.
Part of the problem now, is that the buses that collect passengers from the cruise terminals to bring them into Town, have now negotiated with EH to be able to sell castle tickets on the bus - and they go up to the Castle first.
As there is so much to see at the Castle (and they are promoting it as a two-day experience), people can spend all day there and then get the bus straight back to the cruise ship, so Dover businesses see very few passengers.
Great for the chap who runs the buses, sad for Dover town businesses.

So the answer is to get 2 buses into action. All those wishing to go up to the castle need to change in Market Square to the castle bus. Once folks are off the bus it may be possible to get them to spend a bit of time in the town first. Come on, let's think creatively and find solutions.
