Of course people want to see funding allocations being improved to hopefully focus on the things we (hopefully) collectively find important; however let's not pretend that DDC has any real influence on things like the NHS/GPs, or the bulk of the road network/road maintenance etc. Yes it can do a bit towards helping with homelessness, but given current land/build costs the money put into Market Square wouldn't have gone very far & we would still have been left with a bland, gray, awkward to use space in the centre of town.

In this instance Dover History Pages is absolutely correct, in that having applied for the funding to revamp the market square it could not be spent on anything else.
Of course it is a bit of a novelty at present but seems so far to be thoroughly enjoyed by young & old, with lots of kids playing, parents watching from the vastly increased seating and lots of older people taking equal advantage of the increased seating.
Yesterday saw a dance troupe using the stage area for the first time which seemed to go down reasonably well & is the first of many events planned for Market Square.

As both Sue & Bob know buses are not funded by DDC but by KCC (in part) & are provided by a number of private sector companies who need to at least break even to survive & continue to provide a service. However as we have seen the financial crisis at both KCC & Stagecoach has led to a drastic reduction in routes and frequencies across the district.
