The post you are reporting:
Jean and I went to the Manston Airport Holiday exhibition on Saturday and what a disappoiintment.
Didn't see anyone from the Airport, just a few stalls - one selling crisps and rape-seed oil made at Birchington (Quex House), face painting, a balloon-folding man, Heart radio and Newmarket Holidays and one that goes to Jersey.
I thought this was a golden opportunity missed; if someone from Infratil (the owners of Manston) had been there asking what destinations people would like to fly to, it would have been useful. Showing people round the airport would have been useful too.
They may in fact, not be able to fly to certain destinations, but knowing where people want to go to from East Kent, must be useful.
After March, there'll be no scheduled flights, only charter holidays.
I know that night-flights are important to any growth at Manston; a recent survey by a firm of consultants showed (somehow) that businesses wouldn't benefit by increased flights from there, so Thanet DC are doing their own survey/consultation to come up with the same answer.
Growing Manston Airport would be of great benefit to Dover and the rest of East Kent with relatively little disturbance to the fewest number of people as it is so close to the coast.
Oh - and the cafe had no coffee apart from a little instant and a few tea-bags left - and a couple of cakes; wouldn't you have thought that for an exhibition, they would have had more than one person there and enough coffee to last the day (we were there about 1.30). A very poor show.
