The Channel Dash Association have sent some recent information regarding their 70th. Anniversary - here are the details:

The first event will be a Memorial Service at the Ramsgate Monument on Saturday 11th February, commencing at 12.25pm, followed by wreath laying, during which (subject to weather conditions) there will be a flypast by a lone Fairey Swordfish Torpedo Bomber aircraft from the Royal Navy Heritage Flight. Just prior to the service, HMS Trumpeter, a Fast Patrol Boat of the Royal Navy, accompanied by a Thames Pilot Launch, will depart Ramsgate Harbour to lay a wreath on the waters of the English Channel simultaneous to the monument wreath laying.

On Saturday evening there will be a formal dinner in the Officer's Mess at RAF Manston, from where the 6 Fairey Swordfish took off on that fateful day, 12 February 1942. At the dinner, Airfix will announce the launch of a limited edition 'Channel Dash' boxed set containing a Fairey Swordfish model and a Spitfire model (details of this are still being completed).

On Sunday 12th February we are holding a 70th Anniversary Memorial Service at St Mary-in-Castro Church, Dover Castle, commencing at 14.00 and dedicated to everyone who took part in 'Operation Fuller' from all three services. Again, just prior to commencement of the service, the Swordfish will fly past Dover Castle along the line of the White Cliffs in Salute as it makes its way back to Yeovilton. On conclusion of the service, our guests will have a tour of Admiral Ramsey's secret War Rooms in the tunnels below Dover Castle from where 'Operation Fuller' was commanded.

The most significant event to commemorate the 70th. Anniversary will take place on Saturday 12 May 2012 when we will unveil and dedicate our 'Operation Fuller' Memorial Monument at Marine Parade, Dover - on the seafront and in the shadow of the castle and War Room. This event will be attended by all three Armed Services and veterans. It is expected that as well as the Fairey Swordfish, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will also fly past in salute. We also expect that the Royal Navy will attend with a significant vessel to commemorate the dedication.

This will be a very moving ceremony with a good deal of pomp and ceremony, including Military Bands, Guards of Honour and Standards. Our Patron, Admiral the Lord Boyce will preside at each event.

If you can attend either or both events, please do so.

In the Spirit of Carnival we ask guests to consider their "Tableaux" and dress themselves and their tables in true carnival fashion. The competition for "Tableaux" is optional, however we will be offering prizes on the night.

The aim of this evening is to raise enough money for a Band in Carnival, last year we had two bands each costing £650. One of which Bloco Fogo was sponsored by Dover Town Council.

We will also be advertising our Court of Dover Selection which will be held at Qube Dover on Saturday 24th March 2012. This year all current court members entering the competition will not be eligible to enter the Junior Competition, which leaves the competition wide open to new entrants between the ages of 8 and 12 years.
