A man from Deal has been issued with a £80 fixed penalty notice for buying alcohol for some underage teenagers.

Neighbourhood officer PC Paul Tutthill (pictured) was alerted by CCTV operators about some teenage girls on The Strand in Walmer on Thursday afternoon (6 September) seen handing money to the man.

The man was also seen leaving a newsagents' shop with bottles of alcohol which he gave to the girls along with the change.

PC Tutthill found the man and issued him with the penalty notice.

Sgt Chris Gurney from Deal Neighbourhood policing unit said: 'Perhaps this man just didn't really think about what he was doing?

'Not only was he committing a criminal offence but he was also putting the health and safety of these young girls at risk.

'I'm pleased that in this case the CCTV staff spotted what was going on and we were able to intervene and prevent this happening.

'We can't always be there though and I would encourage anyone who finds themselves being asked to buy alcohol for young people to think carefully about the potential consequences, both for themselves, and for the young people, and just say 'No'.'
