Unfortunately the JEP web site is obviously taking a pounding so it is not responding but the update from the Beeb is here :

A "major incident" has been declared on Jersey, with reports of multiple deaths at a property in St Helier.
Jersey Evening Post reported that at least four people, two of which are believed to be children, were killed in a domestic incident.
The island's police has confirmed that a "serious incident" has taken place.
The emergency department at Jersey General Hospital was closed, with visitors being turned away from the hospital's wards.
BBC Jersey's Tim Pryor says police are at Upper Clarendon Road, St Helier, where an area has been cordoned off.
The Beeb have just updated the above - it now reads
Five people have been killed and another is in a critical condition after a stabbing incident in Jersey, police have said.

A 30-year-old man is in police custody at Jersey Hospital where he is also recovering from surgery.

From my family who work for the JEP It appears a man has stabbed and killed 5 people in a flat on Midvale Road St Helier. At least 2 deaths are children. A man is in custody but receiving treatment at the local hospital.
As you can imagine there is a heavy police presence at both the hospital and crime scene.

Rumours are that it a Polish family involved in the incident...really upsetting for such a small community.

Very sad indeed.
What makes people kill others in this sort of domestic incident ? We all get angry at times, but thankfully we have commonsense or restraint not to make it worse.
I am very sorry for all concerned; glad you all are O.K. Marek.

It was the first murder on the island since 2004. The local police force were physically shaken by events and the Head of Police went on TV to reassure residents that Jersey was still the safest country in the western world with very little crime.
However the whole island has been rocked by events. Thanks for your comments John., ,Roger and others. I informed my nephew the deputy news editor of the Jersey Evening Post that my friends on the Dover Forum were following the events and expressed concern I also posted a link to the DF. Hope you don't mind PaulB .News websites across the island crashed under the pressure.

As sad as this incident was i am struck by the fact that that it occurred at the same time as a Polish Food and Craft festival.
We surely all know about the rise in the incidence of violence at moments of celebration:weddings, Christmas etc.
Although, Marek you point to this high-time for your Polish community it is rather played down on the list below. I wonder if you feel this time is a big deal for Poles in Jersey?

Tom
The Polish fete was originally scheduled to be held 2 weeks ago but was cancelled due to a weather warning that did not transpire. Whether the victims or attacker had attended the festival is unknown at this time.
However it would be foolish to cancel events like this fete or the Dover Regatta,Carnival etc for fear of someone losing their head. Remember this is the first murder on the island in 7 years. I appreciate that even 1 murder is one too many but we all must press on with life.

everyone seems totally shaken up by events there, a pathologist from the home office has arrived there to assist the investigation into the tragedy.
Glad Marek and family safe and sound. Hope it gets unravelled soon.

Some really sad news ..... it was one of my sons work colleagues whose wife and child were killed. They were just visiting friends after attending the Polish festival when the attack took place. Innocent victims on a day out. We are all devasted and shook up by the news.

How awful, it is bad enough when there is no link but when the person is known however loosely it really brings it home.
