Marks & Spencer PLC are to celebrate 100 years of trading in Dover this year; the intended date currently, is 17th. of August.

I have made up a poster that has been approved and passed by the company archive department and I have started to send it round to all those on my email asdress groups.

I can't put the pdf on here, but below is the main part of the document.

Marks & Spencer PLC are celebrating their 100 years of trading in Dover, in August.

As some of you may know, Michael Marks, a Russian-Polish refugee, began selling penny goods from a market stall in Leeds in 1884 with merchandise bought from Isaac Dewhirst.
When his company grew in size, he needed additional help; this came in the form of
    Thomas Spencer, Isaac Dewhirst's cashier.
This partnership started in 1894 and cost Thomas Spencer £300 for a half-share of the business.

In 2011, M & S Dover, celebrate 100 years of trading in the Town. Their present site in Biggin Street (opened in 1930) was not their first location, that was lower down in Biggin Street, number 43 - the building with a bear on the first floor.

Marks & Spencer PLC Head Office want to confirm they are here to stay and will commemorate their 100 years in Dover by having special celebrations on or around the 17th. of August this year.

As Dame Vera Lynn is such a good supporter of Dover, she is being asked to launch the celebrations; it hasn't been confirmed yet, but whether she can or not, it will be a great day for Dover and all the residents and the many visitors here.

The celebrations are scheduled for August 17th.
