In Market Square about 1 pm there were two separate groups of 3 shouting obscenities at each other. I pointed out that the square was full of parents with young children and got the expected response. The problem is that they know the chance of police coming along are quite remote so they carry on as they like.

Just not enough Ol Bill around anymore to deal with anything, they seem to have a purge or at least they say they are for a little while but things soon go back to normal.Same situation in most towns.Off the subject but i was amazed to see a litter inforcement officer giving a penalty notice to a street begger in Canterbury yesterday for dropping a fag butt. The begger was quite amused by it all. What chance of him paying a fine.A total waste of time.

The Police service is not fit for purpose anymore, officers are demoralised over pay, pensions and general conditions. The top brass are basically politicians who throw as many officers as possible in when there is a chance of a headline, we know this more than most in Dover. We have no custody suite in our nick so possible felons are taken to Folkestone or Canterbury to be charged which takes away more time that could be spent patrolling locally.

The policing of Dover is rubbish and has been that way for years, now and then they show up in force then they are gone again.we need them on our streets 24/7 just as it was years ago .WALKING around in twos not one anymore ,do away with the support officers as they have no powers anyway.lets get back to the police looking and acting as a officer of the law and some taller then 5ft 2ins please, that would be a help. When I was a lad you had to stand 5 ft 10ins before you could get in.And also the judges etc are also letting the public down,by not standing by the law by letting felons off .
Some members of the public are back to drinking in our town and parks even giving out drugs outside the police Station riding bikes again down the walking only part of the town, begging in doorways the list goes on and on.

Another thing we need is respect for the police forces in our area (after all, that is why they wear the uniform) - something that is frequently lacking in the community and travelling public.

True what you say there Mr Button but how do you get that to happen? it can only be done at schools home and the law its self.

Yes it appears the police have lost the will to live.
Drug dealing and the stench of skunk smoke fill the Dover streets and pavement cyclists inflict their reign of terror on pedestrians totally unchallenged.
Maybe we should have a march about it - that would get the constables' attention...

It is time that the true public of Dover made a stand and try to get it all stopped all our MP does is talk and have photos taken of his self for the TV and press ,so it makes him look like he is doing the best for Dover.

Mr Vic, my answer to your post 8 is, alas, I don't know. I do think respect for the law and police begins in schools probably and homes certainly - I know exactly what my parents would have made of me not doing as instructed by a police officer. Their attitude compares with cases we have seen locally and nationally of motorists playing 'chicken' or worse with officers on foot. As for the retired solicitor who thought the A20 40mph speed restriction signs did not apply and so carried on at a higher speed, well, what kind of example does that set?

The seats outside the "Port of call" and Dickens coffee house were all taken and had their lunch with a cacophany of noise. I have never seen that in tourist areas of other countries, just here in England.

I was hoping to scroll down to see a picture of said men. Maybe they need a bit of public shaming.
Even I (well known to like a bevy or six) was well appalled by the number of people I saw yesterday between Pencester Road and The Market Square, who were pretty much totally wasted by mid afternoon. All still drinking and arguing loudly amongst themselves (apart from one bloke who was so unconscious and unresponsive that a concerned citizen called an ambulance). It appeared they could only communicate with each other by shouting aggressively. It seemed like every bench had a group. Lots still there when I went out in the evening as well. I thought that area was a strict "no alcohol consumption" zone, or was that just a phase?
Some people just shouldn't drink and maybe mandatory rehab should be a thing (though would probably be a waste of time and money with these delinquents). These people tend to be barred from every public establishment so maybe it's time to start fining shops that sell booze to them. When I worked in supermarkets they had files of pictures of known shoplifters. Maybe the same thing could be done for people who can't handle their alcohol?
This town could do with a determined crackdown.

Possibly the same three blokes that were annoying people waiting for their bus in Pencester at around 15.10. One of them, unable to stand properly fell over and knocked a lady off the so called seats. Two PCSO's apparently had a word (not that said bloke was capable of understanding) and then went back to their car and drove off. He should have been arrested but then the PCSO's have no power.
I suppose if they were given the power the Police Federation would object.

I can't remember, outside of demonstrations and riots, the last time I saw a real police officer in Dover.

The issue of who sells alcohol to those already inebriated is an interesting one. The Co-op and the shop in Castle Street are very strict on this and both the convenience stores in Market Square have signs to say they don't sell to anyone that is known to be a nuisance drinker - however one went on record a while back to say they were losing business as others were flouting the ban.

Pencster Road not a plesant place to wait for a bus.Seems to attract low life. Some years ago t he Counci pulled down the old wooden shelter removed shrubs and trees all to make Penceter saferWell over the years it's no better. Most days a rough sleeper or a drunk can be found sprawled on a seat as for Market Square I avoid it as the sight of people well tanked up before mid day is not pleasant.
