Who met the Bish? Why, somebody called either Rev or Vic.

Once he'd crossed the border I gave him a thumbs up on behalf of Lydden, and got one back

No idea Ron, but it would have been good if someone had; admittedly it would have been short-notice, but if none of them were asked or invited, it would have been a bit like a gate-crash - wouldn't it ? Where did he stay over night - one of our "nice" hotels ?
Well done to him and his team though.

Roger see the other thread...have pictures of him leaving 'Millers' the following morning. All the crew stayed there. There are good pictures of him on that thread too by the lads..taken in various locations.

Thanks PaulB - yes I've now read the other thread, so I know. Good photos.
Just as an aside Paul, the restaurant there is called Marine Court and the Hotel side is called Premier Inn.

i still think of it as millers even though it changed names years ago.
I shook his hand and congratulated him on what he is doing as he came out of the Sea Sports Centre Tuesday evening, although I dont think I count

went to canterbury this morning and i have a good reason why none of the above met john bishop
the next day he ran from dover to faversham via sheperdswell etc
not surprised the A2 from dover to canterbury is disgusting with all the litter there since christmas when first reported on this site
i think it would have been an embrassment for the national press to see the state of the main road
how can we have a military tattoo in june if this rubbish is still there --- which at the rate of clean up and oranisation from dover council will probabaly still be there next christmas

Sorry Ron, but trunk roads like the A2 are the responsibility of Kent County County or the Highways Agency, not Dover District Council.
Most things people grumble about DDC are not their responsibility at all.
Roger.

I wonder what the origin of the litter might be?
Lazy scumbag road users?
Bins left to over-flow?
Too few places to stop? (with bins)
Often a bit of forward planning can lead to lower maintenance costs and an improved service...no, not one huge skip.

Some of it is bottles of waste from lorry drivers, some are plastic bags from Tesco and some from car-passengers, throwing their litter out of their cars.
I can't talk about overflowing bins as I haven't stopped to check them.

First of all John was due to arrive at about 1230 so Sue Chandler (Deputy Leader at DDC) and I went down to the Sea Sports Centre on behalf of DDC to welcome him.
No-one was around so we had some coffee, then a sandwich and eventually found out from the Rowing Club that it was more likely to be between 3pm and 4pm.
Still OK as we both had meetings at Whitfield at 2pm.
Back we went at 3pm - still no body in sight so we had a large pot of tea this time while I text my contact at the Rowing Club to learn that it was now more likely to be after 6pm.
Sue had an evening meeting but I returned to the sea front just before 6pm only to meet the Dover Express photographer coming the other way who told me that John had already arrived and landed near the lifeboat station.
I know these things can't run to time but two of us did do our utmost to try to be there.

I must go down to the sea again
to see the BBC and Sky
to meet and greet
the star and say
Hi there and goodbye
Very bad PR on the part of the production company. All small screen and no big-picture.
P.S.
Hello Nigel. It is nice to have words to match the (many) pictures.

Good effort to meet John B. there by Nigel and Sue, pity it didn't work out as planned.
Roger
Indeed - and worth telling us about! Stuff happens, so it is good to know the efforts were made even if it didn't work out.

Yes great effort by Nigel and Sue Chandler to get down to meet Mr Bishop. As is the case with these things though they never go to plan. There were chaotic timings down here on the seafront on the day and unless you had all day to hang about it was very difficult to be there.
Here is a pic of the Bishop himself arriving over in the yacht basin...
HELLO REG I've had several goes trying to make that LINK above LIVE for you but it doesnt work. The detail must be wrong on the link itself. Have another go...but always type the address BETWEEN the URL boxes.

Brave effort there Tom but alas it's still not working. I think the general URL might just be wrong.
